Was wondering if there were any options to upgrade the stock open diff that comes in the Auto V35?

I have found that on take off @ a busy intersection the back left wheel will break traction easialy and then traction controll will kick in and everythig slows down. Was thinking that a LSD would help since power would go evenaly to both rear wheels. Have also noticed this when turning right and giving it a bit of stick mid turn

Taken from this site

Z33 - MT - R200 - 3.538

Z33 - MT - R200V - 3.538

Z33 - AT - R200V - 3.357

Z32TT - R230V - 3.692

Z32 - R200V - 4.083

G35 - Sedan - AT - R200 - 3.357

G35 - Sedan - MT - R200V - 3.538

G35 - Sedan - AWD - AT - R200 - 3.357

G35 - Coupe - MT - R200V - 3.538

G35 - Coupe - AT - R200 - 3.357

G35 - Coupe - AT - R200V - 3.357

Q45 - G50 - R200V - 3.538

Q45 - FY33 - R200V - 3.692

R32 GTR - RB26DETT - MT - F160 - 4.111 - (Front Final Gear)

R32 GTR - RB26DETT - MT - R200 (Mechanical LSD) - 4.111

S15 - MT - R200H - 3.692

S15 - AT - R200V - 3.916

S14 - KA24DE - 4.083

S14 - SR20DET - MT - R200V - 3.692

S14 - SR20DET - AT - R200V - 3.915

S13 - KA24DE - 4.083 - (Both R200 and R200V

So im guessing that a R200V is the stock viscous "spelling" hence the V LSD

so if thats the case then if I can find someone with a S14 MT whos pulling out their diff centre to fit a 1.5 or a 2 way mech centre then I should be able to swap my diff centre with theirs and have a LSD with a similar ratio to what the stock open V35 LSD is? It also looks like the 350z Z33 autos came with a LSD well according to the site this info is from and it also has the same 3.357 ratio

OK now for the NOOB question will a higher ratio eg 4 give better acceleration and less top speed than a lower ratio eg 3? im thinking that the higher the ratio the less top speed but faster accel

well the ratio of the Z32 is 4.083 and id like to keep the rato as close to stock as possivle hence why the S14 MT ratio of 3.69 is closer to the stock ratio V35 auto ratio of 3.357. Also findind a S14 owner whos upgrading their diff centre will be a lot easier than a Z32 owner. After all when I had my S13 and I had a KAZZ 2 way put in my old diff centre went in the bin.... didnt think it was worth anything and im sure most S14 owners would think the same

Well im no mechanic... but would love it if someone who knew about these things could come post and enlighten us

but one would think that a R200 is a R200 just like a SR20 is basicaly the same SR20 weather it be a S13 14 or 15... I know that there are differences in the plenum cams and other stuff but just using that as an example

except that FWD SR20s are different engines to RWD SR20s :P

but afaik an R200 rear end contains all the same internals (except ratio and if its LSD equipped), i think only the rear casing is different as per the car that its installed into. i dont even think you need to get the ratio the same (assuming its an RWD V35) if you want longer gearing or shorter, the speed is taken from the ABS signal taken after the final drive....

Some comments

I put a new front coupling on my diff and the shaft is bigger than the R32/R33 ones, just makes me question compatability.

Z32 is an R230 so incompatable.

Would also be cautious with changing the ratio with the auto, need to check if this would impact anything with the auto output shaft comparison with ABS signal within the transmission computer.

Hope this is helpful.

actually id like to change wat i said, the entire casing may be different lol just change the internals :P

the ABS signal only sends back the speed of the wheel no matter what ratios are before it. ABS doesnt know what gear youre in or your final drive ratio.

Yeah i was thinking it would be easier to just change the internals like when I had a kazz centre put in my 180sx diff

I had a feeling that the speedo came off one of the wheels or something so changing gearbox/diff would not change speedo reading. As for the auto computer i never thought it would have any issues with the diff ratio being changed? after all wont it be looking more @ rpm and speed and throttle position?

on newer cars like ours the speed is taken after the diff. older cars like S13/S14 had a gearbox sensor.

and yes the auto tranny shouldnt act any differently, youll either accelerate faster or slower depending on the ratio off the diff. that said, the gearbox might slip more with a taller final drive....

No there should be no change as the ABS sensors are on the wheel side of the diff.

Great! now all I need to know is if I can simply install a S14 MT diff centre in my V35 and all will be good with no more single spinning badness

Would my CVT (GT-8) be open diff as well then???

I am assuming open diff means Non-slip Differential???

As I want to do a Diff Flush but stuck in finding out if to get AmsOil (75W90) Normal GL-5 LSD Diff oil or NS (non-slip) GL-5 Diff Oil???

LSD it is for the GT-8 & 6MT...

Best Ever Spec Sheet!!!

Thank you so much Greg :) AAA+++

PS. Do you read/write Japanese?

To do the same and source out a workshop manual in English in any format as I can only find a Japanese CD Workshop after countless searches! :(

    • The cross sectional area of a circular hole scales with the square of diameter. So a 2mm diameter hole is 4x the area of a 1mm hole. Not double. The 1.7mm hole is nearly 3x the area of a 1mm hole. You do not need restrictors at both ends of the oil supply line. If you have new, additional restrictors at the turbo end, that you did not have before, then you do not need a restrictor at the inlet end.
    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist
    • There are several aftermarket options available, from not-too-painful moneyhttps://justjap.com/collections/driveshafts-bearings/products/d-max-reinforced-replacement-rear-driveshaft-set-fits-nissan-s13-s14-s15-r32-r33-r34-c35 and  https://justjap.com/products/crank-motorsport-billet-rear-axles-fits-nissan-skyline-r33-gts-t-r34-gt-t?srsltid=AfmBOorQk4xkGUa98kO7v2ePLUiNt-HRrM2AwWNw9mbSIVE1ujBVwY__, all the way up to The Driveshaft Shop https://driveshaftshop.com/skyline-cv-axles/
    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
