I give up , what is a Z Tube?

The OEM 350z Intake pipe is commonly refered to as the Z Tube. It supposedly has less restriction compared to the OEM V35 intake pipe and hence this is one of the most common mods undertaken to supposedly gain a few extra kws and a more aggressive engine note at high revs.

There are now a lot of different versions of the so called Z tube ie: polished, CF etc...all pretty much do the same thing.

Check out this link http://www.ststurbo.com/

I don't really get the point, seems to just be mounting a turbo towards the rear of the of the exhuast system where it is a little cooler but then you've got to have the plumbing all the way back to the front of the car?

I'd think the air filter is likely to get more crap on it under the car and be more susceptible to damage too.

Is the pipe back up to the front supposed to effectively replace an intercooler or something?

The point is that for a N/A car ,you dont have to fabricate expensive manifolding to mount the turbo/s on the engine . The remote turbo basically takes the place of the existing rear muffler. Yes, with the Squires method , they run lube and cooling pipes from the engine bay using engine oil and water pressure- lube only if you run a plain bearing turbo. Also, the compressed air is run under the car to the intake or a F/M intercooler first. If you read through their site, they claim little loss of thermal efficiency at the rear of the car.

Another method of lubing the turbo is to buy a pump from these people www.tcsmicropumps.co.uk and have a self contained lube system in the boot of your car.

They also say that if you keep boost below 8 psi, most cars can still use existing ECU, injectors and fuel pump.

Another advantage of this system is stealth, your engine bay looks pretty stock.

Last word, I am in no way connected with these people ,I just think their system is worthy of discussion on a N/A forum.

Cheers

    • Finally have an update on this  Rack came in this week so I did a test fit. You do need the S chassis bushings since the rack is 5mm thinner than the R33 rack. The main issue I foresaw and ran into was one of the hardlines not lining up properly with there it's meant to on the rack. After some gentle coercing and bending very slightly, I managed to get it to fit without any kinks and keeping the hardline pretty much in all of the factory mounting positions. I did have to unbolt all of the soft mounts to move the line around so I could snake it out and bend it safely but it looks good to me for now. I'll update when the rack is fully bolted in and functioning.

    • What are you thinking makes a sequential shit to drive on the street? About the ONLY thing I can think of, is if you're wanting to be able to roll up to lights in third or second and pop it straight into neutral, or you want to come down two or three gears, say out of 5th and back to second, but they shift quick enough it doesn't really matter
    • I'm not a drag racing guy, but that was a good watch. Didn't Ibrahim's car have some cooch! But the big question is....WTF is with so many of them running without seatbelts!
