hey mate I have a similar issue ..very bad rust in the same spot on my R34 and it's been cut and bogged before but rust came back so i've just got new top plates (clean towers cut off a wrecked R33)

Do you know what you guy did .. did he remove the original top plates and then treat the area and then weld new top plates on? what did he use to rust proof the bottom plate before welding on new top plates ?

I'm taking it back to the same panel beater that did the dodgy bog job on mine as he's charging me less this time (only $400) but this time to take the original top plates and do it properly. But if the rust ever comes back I'm gonna f**king cry.

Don't know what to do .. what to use to protect the bottom plate once the tops are off because the welding heat will probably melt any rust proofing

  • 3 weeks later...

sold my at the start of the year after getting the rust fixed... meet up with the owner a little while go ....

its all exploded again, around the work, further in the wheel arch .... if you have rust in your struts ....SELL IT!

yeah its no good this rust!! I will be going to a few bodyshops shortly to get some quotes, I have pealed back some of the top skin to see how bad it is, there are no holes it just seems to be the upper skin not the tower it self,

It must be a pretty big problem as half the stagea's down here have rust bubbles around the tower

    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
