nice work there everyone. My theory on the RE55 TT rubber wasn't quiet correct. Also, don't mix them with normal tyres.

The TTs only worked on the out lap and for the first bit of the first quick lap, the SR was trying to spin me around during that time.

Then the SR kicks in and the TTs turn into mush. After the first 6 laps of the day, the TTs were basically ruined. I must admit though, even though they were ripped to the shithouse, the grip from them straight from the pits and the first couple of laps was spectacular.

I think its time to look at the Dunlop Direzas everyone is running now. The wear I saw on those was spot on. You'd get at least a few track days out of them.

Poor Snowy, nothing worse than a long drive up the Hume for a pesky issue like a bearing to stop your day...

Try the advan AO50's medium compound. They have been fantastic for me.

Although I'm not sure on the price difference between them and the dunlops.

The Dunlops are $650 a corner for 265/35/18. Be interesting to know what the A050's are for the same size.

I wont be going back to the RE55's anytime soon as you can flip the dunlops left to right (need to take the tyres off the rims though but easy done). The extra $ over the RE55's is made up for in longer wear and I reckon the R1 compound feels faster than the SR2's. The Dunlops are 5 events old now and still provide good grip and feel.

Some data from the weekend - Fastest lap on the weekend (Red Line) V. PB in July (Black Line).

Both runs are basically the same (within .1 of a second). The difference between the two is that while I was carrying more corner speed everywhere on the weekend I lost a lot going through the boobs as I was lighting up the rears. Note the black line in July and it shows really smooth acceleration around the boobs where the red line (weekend) is all over the place as I wheel spin and have to lift slightly. Think the track was a bit green on the weekend after all the rain during the week, that's my excuse anyway....

Oh yeah, and my best theoretical time is....... 1.34.31 ;)

Russ - this is the question I have been wanting to ask people running the A050 "mediums".

Are you actually running the Mediums or are your running the M compund? Because the M compound is infact the Hard compound... (I think the mediums are the S compund and the softs/wets are the SS compound)

Or maybe M stands for mediums, S for soft and SS for Super Soft - but if thats the case then they don't make a H compund - so the M is he hardest you can get.

It maybe that Yoki M's fall in-line with the Dunlop R's (Medium Hards)??

Because I know my car doesn't like the Dunlop M's and Aaron found the same with the RE55 TT's - which are both true "medium compunds" so it would be interesting to see how the A050 M's held up if they are the same as the TT's etc.

TT are only good for one belting lap maybe 2 if its zero degrees ambient. After that all the goodness is gone. But when they are on its got to be close to a second advantage.

Yokies do make a hard compound but only for really big rubber designed for heavy cars. Hence the need for a hard compound. But as the A050 doesn't come in big sizes ie 285 + they havent got a H compound only in the A048 315s etc :D

Well they lasted Ryan a long time and mine weren't wearing excessively. They held in very well for the 6 or so laps I did with 1 80% lap mid-session. Maybe the M's are only suited for the lighter cars. Traction tyres can probably advise coz they get them in. When I ordered mine they called them mediums.

If they are in fact the equivalent to RE55 SR's with wear then they have more grip.

Yeah well the Dunlop M's and RE55 TT's work well on lighter / less powerfull cars as well but just not on our big beasts.

But I know Jeff Beable ran the A050's @ Targa Tas this year on his R34 GTR but I'm still not 100% convinced they are going to work for people like me and Aaron. It's just a shame the Dunlops are so damn $$$!!

Bridgestone Oz need to hurry up with the release of the RE11's god damn it!! :D

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
