If anyone attended the Oran Park open practice on the 25th Sept pls post your times and photos here.

There was a good showing of Nissan's at the track and some pretty respectable times were laid down. The best of the Nissans was in the 1.20's.

I have some in car video that will be on youtube later today.

I will post up link when ready.

Rgds,

Grippy.

Cool vid!

looked very busy! the blacks13 was hooting along quite quick!

Did you have any ideas on time Andrew?

what happened @ 6:40? tyres go off or was someone behind you?

The black S13 was me!

Was a great day, heaps of fun!

Started to come to grips with the car again after a few mods. I ended up doing a best of 1:20.06 timed with an XT lap timer however I know there is more in it just from watching the vid... definitely braking too early into the kink, turn 3, Sutton's and the last corner so plenty of room for improvement :P

Evil, I was behind Andrew at the 6:40 mark on the vid in my white S13, he slowed and went wide to let me through, but I stayed back and waited for another opportunity.

All three of us (Andrew, SRS13 and myself) managed to dip into the 1:20 lap time, which isn't too bad considering it was very dusty from the dust storms we had during the week. We all wanted a 1:19 but it didn't quite happen.

There were a couple of times we were fanging down the straight and then just at turn 1 a car would enter from the pits causing some severe holy crap moments!! Don't know what the guy releasing people from the pits was thinking sometimes! You're close to the limit and then you have to deal with a slow car entering on your line. After the first time it happened I was more wary but would've liked a less crowded day.

All in all, it was one of the best track days I've done. It's an awesome track OPGP and I shared it with some mates, met some cool people and totally loved it.

Can someone please build another Oran Park GP real soon??

I know s13devciat has done a 1.20.2 on the GP on official timing, and thats hooting, just didnt look as quick in that youtube vid? (no disrepsect, Im 7 seconds slower anyway!!!)

yeah I noticed that...what were the pit guys thinking? you guys would have eben around 200kms, back off for the kink, and they still let someone go!

I would have shat myself too!! lol

The 1:20.XX laps were not captured on the vid. I know my quickest lap of the day, 1:20.65 was in the 3rd session as was John's lap of 1:20.06 in the black S13.

The youtube vid was 4th session. I think Andrew just uploaded the video with the most action going on!

Last session of the day Andrew managed to punch in a 1:20.80. We were all using the XT lap timer, I know it's not official Natsoft timing but I've compared the two on a previous supersprints at OPGP and they were within .05 of a second of each other, so pretty accurate.

Wouldn't mind attending one more supersprint or event with official timing just for the record before it closes! Lol!

I know Circuit Club has a day coming up at OPGP 28/11/09, hoping it will have official timing.

Everyone seems to have the same gripe. Personally i think you can see fairly early on the straight whether someone is pulling out and brake/keep left without browning your pants. You're high enough up in a street car that you can look down at the staging area as you crest the hill on the straight and see whether anyone is in the process of driving out rather than waiting until you see them pop out past the wall while you are fully commited.

In defence of the pit guys, some people go out pretty hot, some dawdle, some don't go straight away when they are waved out. On a busy day it's the difference between coming out in a gap and coming out in traffic.

I agree on the xt racing timers accuracy at OP. Mine is pretty spot on at OP and about .2 faster at WP

When your barelling down the straight at over 200km with 2-4 cars around you, the last thing I am thinking of doing is looking away from the circuit over a brick wall to check if someone is pulling out. I am mindful of where I am going and what the other cars around me are doing.

Whilst we all have a responsibility at the track to drive and act safe, I don't believe drivers who are travelling down the straight at those speeds should have to contend with a person pulling out onto the track at 50kmh going onto the driving line. The marshall should be watching and making a decision as to when the best time is to let the car out and the person entering the track should be watching what the other cars are doing and take extra care and caution.

I know the marshalls don't always get it right but some of the calls were absolutely dangerous and possibly reckless. I was with Mark when the guy pulled out in front of us and I really did sh!t myself. I honestly thought someone was going to hit him.

Anyway, no real harm was done and it was a great day. Cant wait to do it again!

The faster times came later in the day, this was the third session of the day. The boy's turned it up after lunch.

  • 4 weeks later...

In defence of the pit marshall, when you are standing at the far end of the straight where car are entering from the pit, it is impossible to see the begining of the straight and therefore he cannot see what is coming out of the last turn.

By the time he releases someone into (clear) track cars sneak up on the pit exit at close to 200kms.

I think he was doing his best. I think that is the reason for the small tower half way down the straight, but it is impossible to manage with one person.

I didn't find it to much of a hassle, just had to be on your game.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
