I'm sure thats the risk he'll have to take if he wants a gutted 1. Everyone knows the penality for not having 1 (all I remembered was some ridicules fine at least 5k or more) but yes he did say he want a gutted cat.

In any case I've posted a topic on which cat to use and what I've got recommended is MetalCat (I think Repco sells them for 400ish). But I end up getting the cheapo Catco ceramic one.

I think sayin "you have spent 20k f**king grand on your car & your a tightass" in the same sentance is a bit of an oxymoron.

But as much as hate to admit it thats a good point.

Does anyone know from personal experience about being caught with no cat?

Ill tell ya what will be funny. . . .

When the EFI performance R34 rapes and pillages the PCE performance 180 :(

Both ERD cars will rape whoever wins :D

Yeah, I got nabbed for one but managed to talk my way out of it.

If you do get caught, don't mention EFI to the cops or have a sticker on the car as they can be up for a $5k fine if they fit it. Make sure you do it yourself if you go down that road

Yea cat can be fitted damn easily (even idiots like me can do it), if they dont require welding. Cant you say you hit a speed bump and didnt know it was gutted? :D

The RnD in cats these days means you can run them with no issues, if you get a decent one. EG: What the ERD cars have.

You sacrifice a certain type of exhaust note, but the lack of tolerance towards no cats is almost not worth it.

I’m a fencer sitter, when you start making big power, one would think the un burnt fuel and heat would kill them pretty quickly?? But I guess they just become a part of the maintenance you need to keep on top of with a more serious car.

Yeah I would def do it myself so It didnt implicate them

Yeah I was told by a well known tuner that they can burn out eventually especially the high power setups than burn a lot of excess fuel

:D

i dont think that holds true for the new 100 cell cats. As dan says, we run 620hp through mine and pulled it apart after 6 months and 4 track days and it was absoultely immaculate. Brand new condition basically.

Ah ok well thats interesting.

Has anyone had a cat deteriorate before?

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
