The only problem I have with this is that the last time I was defected, the cop & RTA dudes ignored my engineers certificate. I have my wheels and FMIC engineered by Ray Spence, passed Dickson with no issues, yet on the side of the road they didn't seem to care.. So I just find it easier for myself to avoid the roadside inspections.

Yeppo. On the side of the road your engineers certificate means diddly dick.

If he wanted to, a copper could send a brand new, off the truck, car over the pits. The onus is on you to prove to the *cough* qualified *cough* staff at Dickson MVR that your vehicle is road worthy.

Just to clarify. The guys in red cars with Australian Federal Police written down the side are called Uniform Protection Officers and deal primarily with Guarding high profile government officials, bomb threats, embassy related matters, terrorism, they are not instructed to perform general traffic duties. When I say ACT policing its general title given to regular police officers around canberra, because technically AFP are national. Federal Agents, Uniform Protection officers etc wouldnt waste there time pulling you over unless you had a bomb or some of columbias finest.

Ahh yes the old protective service became part of the AFP, they renamed to the Uniform Protection Officers within the AFP.

where do you guys get this information?

the amount of misinformed generalised comments here is just ridiculous! I suggest that if you dont know what your talking about dont speak. most of the idiotic rumours about cars, roads and police are due to forums and clubs spreading stories from a mates mates mate.

Hello, you must have found your way here by mistake.

We're having a conversation on a topic, and each who have something to put in will, as suggested, put in their knowledge or belief.

What you've done is not that, but merely tell us we're wrong.

While I don't doubt you're probably correct in saying so, as your reasoning makes perfect sense, you failed to back yourself up with the CORRECT information.

Having not done so has only made you look like one of the people spreading misinformation.

Also, I type like a moron. Continue fellow Skyline peeps.

where do you guys get this information?

As is most of the information in the world, based on past experiance and scuttlebut.

As Trozzle said, put up or shut up. We love to be corrected by facts, please supply them.

^ This comment is true. They all used to be protective services but now they are a part of the AFP.

Please correct our comments if you have "inside information".

there are a couple of regulars on here who know who i am and know where i get information from.

to give you a hint i have a family member who is a high ranking AFP officer another in PTU and close mates in unifrom. whilst i realise some of you get targeted pretty badly for petty issues like exhaust and height it does create some poor stories.

yes protective service/ AFP wont bother most of the time to pull you up however they are still linked to uniforms and will have no issue putting your plates over the radio.

just remember a lot of police are car and bike nuts and a lot are in with some clubs.

Now at the end of the day wouldnt you raterh see more police on the roads then stupid cameras that have no discretion....

I don't think anyone was bagging out the cops?? (except maybe Sinista but he always does  )

I also have friends who are police officers, so I certainly dont have an issue with them. But I'm still wondering where the mis-information is... we cleared up the protective services thing? What are all the other "misinformed generalised comments" in this thread?

You made mention of uninformed generalist garbage in your first post. But you seem to have backed up what was generally being said in a general way.

I'd rather more police targeting those who harm others, rather then revenue raising. But yes I'd love more MARKED patrols then revenue raisers.

PS what does PTU stand for?

"Now at the end of the day wouldnt you raterh see more police on the roads then stupid cameras that have no discretion...."

Yeah I'd totally love to see more funding spent so more cops with a bone to pick can follow me around and pull me over.

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
