I was running twin 12" thermos on a dedicated track car and a disconected clutch fan.

i found that temps went abit weird and all over the place (had the thermos wired and re-wired a few different times to fix the problem and nothing)

hook the clutch fan back up and she was sweet. this was on an sr and ive had another mate have the same problem with his rb20 and his new car (black top sr)

like i said, it was my personal opinion and on a track car i didnt like it and neither did my car

Abe, help us to help you buddy.....ie.

How much power are you anticipating?

How much track work will the car see?

Is it your daly and if so, how much rush hour driving will it see?

and most importantly, what is your driving style like, ie. boot into it from most traffic lights (which is how I drove when I was younger) or just the occasional squirt, etc?

All the above factors have a big say on clutch choice but having said that (and as Steve stated) you couldn't go wrong with that NPC setup from the little I know about you and your car.

Hope this is all helping bud, cause I was the same when I was trying to decide on turbos and zorsts before selling mine.

Thanks for the help Pete.

At the moment it has ~260rwkw, will eventually go higher when i rebuild the engine - if it dies.

It will be seeing 1-3 Days a year at the Track - Depends how many SAUSA does.

Yes, it is my daily, generally it is a straight run to work, with 1-3 traffic lights. But as for slow moving, bumper to bumper traffic, very rarely - hardly go anywhere near town, closest i get is maybe Vilis :D.

Take off from the lights is generally sedate, but will sometimes give it a bit up to the speed limit, also very rarely go for hills runs, but will be going on a few more hopefully as i now have weekends off :(.

what fmic kit did you get? you shouldnt be cutting up your fan (found out the hard way)

also, personal opinion, thermo's are shit if your also removing the clutch fan.

Never said I was cutting up the fan ... hence why I removed it.

I've removed the clutch fan and fitted thermos to my previous project cars ... including a supercharged SR20DE powered 200B and CA18DET VG30BB turbo powered 1600, and never suffered overheating.

I'm just asking what thermos (for those who are) are being used on RB25DETs.

I'm running a single 14" thermo and even on the track i have no problems with temps.

The problem with clutch fan is that they produce parasitic loss all the time even if the temps are fine. The advantage of the thermos is that they only produce a power loss when the cooling is actually needed which you will surprised to know is only around 30% of the time (more if you are in stationary traffic obviously). When the car is moving generally you don't need any more air flow than what you are getting by the car moving through the air.

Which is my thinking too. What 14" brand are you running?

I'm also running a 52mm alloy radiator. :D

We found in our old drag car that the a/c thermo off a vr/vs holden did a fantastic job, but they are a 16" fan. Other than that try to get one with curved blades and preferably with an outter ring to stop the blades flexing too much.

LOL, sounds like James would make a good candidate for a Mod with his stick wielding talents .......**mental note** :D

yep thats a definate, theres a couple of people from that party im willing to bet are still showing the marks of a good banning now.

never said you were cutting them (i can read and saw what you said) just said you shouldnt also why i asked what fmic piping kit you had as despite the kit you shouldnt have to cut the fan blades as any decent kit made should fit between cam cover and fan shroud without hitting the fan, thus no need for thermo's on a daily car. :D

get thermo if you want was just trying to save you the time and money as they arent needed. also gave you the brand that ive used so go for gold :(

Err....fairly sure that needs to be changed. :)

Does it?! Why does it need to be changed? Last time i went for a hills run was...ummmm, the NS Christmas Cruise, where i got lost...again.

Yeah, i know what you mean. Mine has been off the road for 2-3 weeks with a fried clutch, and its going to be about another 2-3 weeks before its good again :)

Aberax i see your having troubles deciding what clutch to choose..... I highly recommend the same one that i got which was through the group buy that madaz did. I had an R33 GTST with 250 RWKW and i hammered the thing with no problems at all. Before this i went through 2 other clutches. The NPC setup was VERY easy to drive and was capable of a fair amount of abuse ;). Good luck in what ever clutch you choose to go with :)

Sp you have a 5puk Ceramic from Steve's (Madaz) Group Buy? Did you also get the Flywheel too, or have your old one machined?

^^^There you go Abe........just get the NPC bud as it's less than 1/3 of the cost of a Nismo and very good clutch for the $$ by the sounds of it

Which is my thinking too. What 14" brand are you running?

I'm also running a 52mm alloy radiator.

It's just a generic one off eBay.

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below
