I have a R32 GTR and have white lights in them but as my car only has H3C globes i can only improve them so much.

So my question is how bright do i go with a HID set? 6000k, 8000k? what?

I heard if you go to bright it can burn the inside of your light from the heat it produces. Is this right?

Does any type fit in the R32 GTR and any problems associated with having them?

Do i need to get a kit specific to the H3C globe or will any HID fit?

Do i need to modify anything?

Any info on this would be much appreciated,

Thanks.

as far as i know 4000k is brightest and legal thereafter its not i had and would recommend 6000k as best mix of white/blue, 8000k is very blue and higher starts heading pink i havent fitted them to my skyline but i bought an after market kit which was model specific h1 i think it was, as far as heat goes didnt have any issues with this, its a fairly straight forward upgrade just mount ballasts hook up and away u go ;)

important to note it is illegal if you dont have washers and/or auto leveling for headlights..

yes you need a H3C specific HID kit, and as for brightness, its really dependant upon the kit, each kit is somewhat different from the next, i have a bosch 8000k H1 HID kit bought through NYTSKY on this forum, i dont think its too bright or too blue at all. of course that will vary with peoples opinions.

As far as i understand, for optimal light dispersion you want no more than 6000k, anything higher and you start to lose the spread of light.

Any HID kit is illegal, 4000, 6000 or 12000k make no difference. it is true that the higher in the heat range you go the bluer and progressively more violet the color will become, but it will vary between manufacturers, my 8000k kit can be seen here

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Xe...ts-t290630.html

and it is probably even less blue in person

The kelvin rating does not dictate how bright there going to be. The kelvin rating is purly a colour temprature rating only. Around 4300K is the whitest its going to get anything beyond that and it will start going more blue.

The HID kits you will be looking at will all be rated to 35watts.

There are kits that are 50 watts.

Will these be better/brighter than the 35 watts?

They will be brighter but you will have problems with your wiring as it could melt from the ammount of current it will push through and also your headlights could melt from the heat.

hes not going to have a problem with wiring as the stock system is rated to 55 watts. Same applys with heat.

One of the advantages of using HID's is there equal or higher light output using less power then standard globes. stock HID's are rated to 35 watts and are more then enough. There wont be any problems with using 50 watt HID's but you will probly get alot of glare and anoy alot of other people on the road. I have personally never used or installed 50 watt units for customers so i cant really say what there going to be like.

But yes the 50 watt units will be a fair bit brighter then the 35 watt ones.

35w is PLENTY for normal night driving.

Would only recommend 55w to guys who rally or go offroad.

As for Kelvin ratings IMO stay under 8000k.

I have spoken to toygtr, but i just thought i would mention here that H3C kits are available in the GB.

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
