Adm Vs Jdm - Pros And Cons Of Each

Recommended Posts

on the topic of resale value.

If you buy an ADM model and press the fun button and void the warranty etc. does this mean it would now be worth the same as a JDM model with no warranty?

My main reason for questioning is that i would be more inclind to send my car Willall in SA or CRD in Sydney then my local nissan mechanic. To me a factory warranty means nothing as i have had numerous cars and friends with different makes and models that have always had issues trying to have work completed under warranty.

I think the whole VDC off thing (somehow causing damage and having warranty implications) is a bit of a furfy, surely. Think about it, wouldnt modulating the drivetrain (on-off-on-off) cause more drivetrain shock then just letting it spin freely? And yeah, the whole "turn VDC off and your warranty is toast" idea is just untrue. It's amazing how many misconceptions are out there with this car. I've given up trying to correct people when they expouse their GTR wisdom. One guy recently asked me if my 35 was the V6 or V8 version. I just told him V6. He went to some lengths to tell me the Jap version is V8... I just didnt bother. Anyway havent they revised the whole VDC off policy for the UK cars?

Wow thats really ...ummm...weird.

You see last week I picked up a new white GTR from FTG and the dealer guy clearly pointed out that VDC off WILL void my warranty. A fact he repeated to me several times. Are you saying he was lying? I have no intention of turning off VDC. LC2 and non launch is only a tiny fraction difference for 0-100 e.t.c so its rather pointless perhaps?

I know your tired of correcting people but perhaps you can correct me one more time. I am a bit confused.

Thanks man

ps you cant really accidentaly turn of VDC as you need to hold it down for a few sec, so the guy that posted about it being to easy to turn off is not true.

I was at nissan archerfield (QLD) parts store as i get most of my 32gtr parts there

and heard the parts fella arguing on the phone about chassis numbers for a 35gtr

he was like we cant help you without an aussie delivered vin!

it must have been quite heated and the guy wouldent get of the phone

the parts guy eventually said i cant help you at all no matter what and hung up

so theres a bit of 1st hand evidence

Yes as stated previous Nissan Australia (well, at least FTG Nissan in Victoria) will not help at all with servicing, parts for JDM and the sales guys mention several times taking VDC off will void the warranty.

However, in the forms you have to sign if you buy the car it does mention you can turn VDC off if your car becomes bogged and is needed to free it.

I don't see the issue. You will get much better prices and service from Just Jap than Nissan anyway.

It took Nissan dealers 10+ years to start supporting imported r32s (and later models), but now they happily supply anything and keep a lot of stock on the shelf.

Agreed re: servicing.

They're very anti R35 JDM at the moment because it had the potential to cripple new car sales (I was looking at importing an R35 JDM for around $125k OTR, vs $187k ADM).

As if them not servicing it would have stopped me saving $60k.

Parts however would have been a bitch... although I've been getting my R34 bits ex-Japan, my rear bar was about a 3 week wait so not too bad really.

I also agree re: parts, they'll start supplying at some stage as it's more revenue - but right now (well 6 months ago) they stood to gain far more revenue by shunning the JDMs and selling ADMs). These guys see the imports a huge threat to their jobs. Geoff from Prestige was telling me that Nissan were campaigning very heavily about stopping these.

YOu should be able to pick up a 2nd hand 09 ADM for the same price as importing and complying an 08 JDM, The ADM's prices have plumeted worse than a fat lady trying to stay on a diet while she is trapped overnight in a cheese cake store, Get the ADM if the price is right, in the future it would be more desireable.

There are spares commming out left right and centre, I wouldn't worry about Nissan trying to bend you over if you break something expensive, there will be plenty of half cuts comming over soon, not to mention the ones that get smashed here already, tuning shops are frantically making their own parts up, worse comes to worse you send out for parts overseas just like with any other skyline model.

If you do get a grey import, then you have leverage to make him go down on price if it is already in the country, play it off with the ADM ones, save your coin, it will hold it's value better in the short term because you have already saved allot on it. Buy a new ADM today and be prepared to take $60k off the price basically tomorrow. buy an adm for $80k, sell it tomorrow for $90k....... either way i'd be hard pressed to pay more than $130k for a used ADM gtr at the moment seeing as how they are not selling...

Besides $130k is what the car should be worth new, stupid bloody taxes, 33% luxury car tax over $47180, 5% customs tax, 10%gst ect.... no wonder why the rest of the world is paying so much less for the same car overseas.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
