the 180s you are talking about, have 4 stud, small brakes and red top SRs. inferior compared to a s1 s14.

however, still sold on r32s.

But the R32 has an RB20DET, which is inferior to everything.

If I remember correctly, only CA powered S13s come in 4 stud. S13s that left the factory with SR20DETs are 5 stud. The brakes are small, but almost all street cars of that age are underbraked for the power they can make with mods.

all 180s came with 4 stud, a friend in a '97 typeX just did a 5stud conversion. small brakes compared to the 4 pot r32 brakes.

rb20s lack the torque true however, i have heard too many stories of people destroying SRs. also, SR motors are overpriced, at least 2k for a replacement, never.

yeah all s13 vehicles (that includes ALL 180's even the late ones with the black top motor as they are still a s13 and the engine is still a redtop which has had the rocker cover changed to black) are 4 stud.

as for being under braked, i thought that the bigger brakes weren't standard on all turbo 32's and were only on the type m 32's, unlike the 33's which all turbo models had them. i could be wrong though. never really took much interest in the finer details of the 32 models.

also i would have to say that the sr20 is a superior engine to the rb20. sure they have rocker issues when held on the limiter for a while, but other than that i would say they are more reliable than a rb20. less issues with turbo failure thanks to steel wheels, and with the rb20 turbo failure can also come engine failure if parts of the turbo make it into the engine.

double checked, only type-M R32s came 4 pot brakes. so you're right.

while, rb20 turbos aren't strong, that's an easy fix. probably bolt on a rb25 turbo when i have the cash anyways. however, spending 10months on nissansilvia, i did learn that SR bottoms ends aren't that strong. also, even if rb20s are more likely to fail, they are half the price if not more. considering the car is on a tight budget, seems like a better idea. considering, if i get a s1 s14, i would have to get a s1 s14 or later engine, probably around $3k for the engine alone. rb20s go for around $1k, obviously older and less popular but that's a decent price difference.

really doesn't matter that much, it's my first car. ill probably ruined it anyways :P yet ill have to experience required to look after/drive a TT supra or GTR afterwards.

But the R32 has an RB20DET, which is inferior to everything.

It may be inferior in performance but mine has hung on with 24psi pushing 230kw and limiter all day. If it's a reliable engine you want then 32 is best.

If I was buying a car now I would be looking at the silvia platform. Probably an S14. Performance parts are easier to get and cheaper. Also they are probably a better chassis for hill climbs, motokhana's and drift. Of course they do well at the track too.

So you can have an aus S14 but not a SR S13 with the old rules?
