Thinking about adapting an 'new' R34 GTR engine loom to an R32 GTR. Can anyone shed light on the differences? I know the R34 CAS is different, and for example you can't use an R34 Power FC on a 32 or 33 but not sure if this is because of the pin outs, the CAS (different on the R34) or if the whole lot is totally different.

Being an RB26 I'd have thought an R34 loom could be made to fit with a few changes.

Cheers

there is a lot of differences, the r34 picks all its power from in the car R32 takes it from behind lh headlight recess. its easier to retro fit r32 stuff onto r34 engine.

You could if you were patient swap all the electronic engine control gear from the r34 engine loom onto the r32 engine loom but only utilize the body / wiper / power portion.

I have done it all before (in our s13 i did the above so that it all plugged in as per factory) i have also done a R32 rb26 into S15 the same way but its ALOT of time and effort, especially in your case as the only benefit is internal igniter.

Thanks Trent

You mean retain the body/wiper/power portion of the R32 loom? I received this from Ray Hall re using my R32 V44 board:

The same plug-in ECU is used on the R32 and R34 GTR. There is a jumper on the base board that selects either model. So based on this you can use the R34 harness. I have no idea how this harness will connect to the engine, but the ECU end is correct.

my R32 GTR runs a 34 N1 Nur engine inc the 34 CAS etc. I will have to have a look and see how it's done. it all looks factory. I had it done in japan so I have NFI exacly how they did it. I'll have a look and see what coil packs it's running too.

it would just be a pin swap for the cas, nice and simple.

I have reread the post from scooby again and im a bit confused now. I though he wanted to run a r34 engine loom.

maybe he can clear this up and post exactly why he want so use a r34 loom. cause if it is just the CAS issue its a 2min fix with some tweezers :D

Thanks Trent and Richard

It's the R34 GTR engine loom I want to use. No problems yet, but 17 yo heat soaked wiring being what it is I'm looking to replace it, particularly since I already have the 34 loom.

Excellent point re the coil packs, hadn't considered them yet. I seem to remember they are different to 32/33. Look forward to hearing about that.

Cheers

Mark

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
