playstation portable

great device - great idea - only getting better now

witht he release of playtv released in australia, PSP sychronisation now means you can access your PlayTV recorded shows AND watch TV anywhere in australia - not too shabby!!!

but

first of all - i'd like to have a little gripe...

PSPGo

it's the newest model slide version of the PSP

the screen is slightly smaller - it has bluetooth connectivity, the battery life is slightly longer, BUT

they don't take UMD's, and games are only available as software for the console.

the guy i know that works at a game shop says - we don't sell them. they are $370 we only make about 10-20 bucks for sale of the console... as opposed to a higher figure off previous PSP models

PSPgo you can only buy software from playstation store...

now - thing i wanna say is - through out australia, people have BOUGHT games from stores, EB, JB, Target, Game, Gametraders etc... sure, sony hav kept a few of these stores in business over the years - but in turn, they have kept sony's game division in business for years

from developer, manufacturer, distributor, distributor, to retail - after middle man after middle man, you pay about 60AUD for a new PSP game

sony hav knocked out the middle men and sell straight from sony online - no case, no manual, nothing, just software...

and still charge 60 bucks??

that's just rude... sony's taking biting the hand that has fed them for years here - i don't think it's fair..

anyway

psp is a cool device - here you can discuss the "did you knows" of the PSP

for instance - did you know that PSP has a GPS receiver peripheral and can be used as a GPS

in conjunction with this - you know how people plug their Ipod into their cars input jack??

well - ps3 play mp3 too... and videos on a larger screen, and you can purchase car mounting units for them too.

so you can use the PSP as a GPS and media control centre while you're driving... then, when you'r done - unplug it and take it to work and play GTPSP while you're working.

discuss!

i need a PSP genius to come and work on mine. it's an original untouched V1.50 firmware version. and I never have upgraded. I was using devhook with some kind of version emulator to play 2.50 games etc. but then I got bored with it and haven't used it in ages. I want to use it again but don't want to loose my original V1.50 firmware. so who is the PSP guru out there??? :(

I really enjoy my PSP because I can play just about any type of video on it. I can rip DVD's and put them on my memory card, use tons of emulators with 1000's of games. The connecting is a bit rough because of the different hacked versions out there, but other then that I would have to say it is one of the best portable devices ever made.

I'm in the same boat, I downgraded my psp then upgraded to a custom firmware version then left it for ages. Now I'm not sure how I can upgrade it to the newest custom firmware. I have looked on a few sites on how to do it and it seems like a pain in the ass, with about 10 different programs and versions needed to be downloaded and installed in the correct order if you want to be able to download and play the newest games.

x3...

You leave these things for a little while and then forget how to undertake updates.

Becomes very time consuming trying to figure out how to update and what firmware is best to use, etc.

yep, that's my exact problem. :( I'm going to take it to one of these dudes who does chips etc and just pay them to "hopefully" fix it for me so I can keep the original v1.50 firmware but still emulate later firmwares so I can play later games. >_<

dude, google PSP Custom Firmware, all the features of 1.5 and the ability to play games that need higher version FW, and you can have iso loaders, emulators etc etc, most homebrew apps don't even need the 1.5 kernel anyways

Haven't touched my PSP in ages, its the old skool 'phat' version. Its got devhook installed but not the latest version. The only reason why i bought it was to play Ace Combat (which is an awesomesauce game if you like arcade flight sims). I also had the trusty CPS2 emulater so i can play those coin-op arcade games like armoured warrior and aliens vs predator.

When i was really into the whole PSP thing, I also used to have a free app called PSPDisp which would allow you to use the PSP as a secondary PC monitor.

My friend connected his hacked PSP to his PS3 and accidentally upgraded the PSP firmware. Now he has to get it downgraded using that battery technique.

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
