Hi all had anyone here know or consider LPGing their RB25DE, coz I am what are the pros and cons of doing so, would it kill the engine quicker?

Some people is saying most likely there will be a power gain of 5% is it true? and what are the cost of LPGing a n/a R34?

Cheers

go and talk to a LPG conversion place for prices. as for performance, the amount you spend on it won't be very good bang for your buck. you could spend the money on other mods and gain way more power. and don't think you are going to save any money on fuel by doing it. maybe if you plan on keeping the car for 15 years and plan on doing LOTS of driving you might eventually see it pay for itself, but generally you won't. yes LPG is cheaper but you also have to use more of it to make the same power, so it sort of averages out.

here's a quick idea of what sort of savings it would have to have. if you put $50 worth of fuel in your car every week, that is $2600 a year on fuel. at that sort of rate it would take you 4 years to pay off the conversion

My brother is running an R34 GT-V N/A on gas vapour injection. If your in melbourne hit up a place called AG Autogas which are located in lilydale. They did an awesome job. Car runs perfect and does not lose any power on gas. The car is soon going in for a Turbo conversion so dare i say one of the first Turbo r34's running on gas.

Not to mention $26 of gas to 400km

Since LPG has higher octane - to help offset the power loss you should up the compression or get a turbo.

But you will not be saving any money on LPG (unless you do heaps of km on fwy/constant driving speeds) as you will need to burn more to get the same amount of energy as petrol for acceleration.

Conversion costs and LPG maintenance also need to be factored in too.

that's ok but not great. if it was round town then it's good, but on the highway it's not great. i know it's a smaller car, but in the SSS pulsar i can get that sort of running costs/economy from highway driving and i didn't have to spend a few thousand dollars to do it. a few months back i had to take mum down to brisbane. 380km round trip (after work to make matters worse), over half the trip in 110kmh zone which makes it use that little bit more fuel than the 100kmh zone, probably at least 20 or 30km of driving through the centre of brissy and occasionally playing silly buggers. filled up before i left and when i got home. put in 98 octane (even though i normally run it on e10 and don't usually see much of a difference between the 2 in economy) and it cost me under $30 (think it was about $28).

so as i said, if that was highway economy, a few thousand dollars out of pocket and losing my boot space to save $2 when i fill up doesn't seem worth it, LOL

Arent you comparing apples with oranges here? Compare it to any other R34 N/A out there running on petrol

$80 = Around 400-500km

$26 = Around 400km

you would need to fill up more than 3 times to get to the cost of 1 tank of petrol, and by then you would have travelled 1200km.

The gas system only cost him 2g out of his own pocket and the rest was covered by the rebate, so its wasnt all that expensive.

And yes that 400km was in town driving, no highway tests done yet on economy.

Have you seen the boot in the r34 sedan? lol He has the gas tank in there, a Massive amp and 2 x 12 inch subs in a big box and still has some room to spare.

Cheers

whats the point of getting a skyline and putting it on gas :S? thats the stupidest thing ive heard

if the petrol price is to high for you then dont buy it

If thats the stupidest thing you have heard read the whistle thread... Clearly the point of putting it on gas is explained above if you have bothered to read the thread...

i did read the thread, but if gas was so realiable and good to use, then why dont all imports have them then?

i guess this just pisses me off, cos my cousin brought a r33 gtst and sold it after like year and a half cos he complained it cost to much on petrol and wished it was on gas :S like when you buy these cars you know theyre going to eat fuel

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... HTH
    • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
