Hey guys, Irace have a round at Oran Park on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 Jan. This is genuinely the second last chance to race at Oran Park.

It's Irace so essentially no rules - even my car can't run in production cars (more than 5 years old) so it is running in "muscle cars" where I will get slaughtered.

Still - its about the last chance around.

To race there you need an Irace logbook, and a CAMS or AASA race license, thats about it. http://www.irace.net.au

I'll be there pending fixing my cooling problems - who else is in???

I'll be in for pit bitching if you need a hand Duncan.

I need a cage before I can race race... :)

Matt let me know if you can get out there, we can always use a hand.

Chris I've got a shitload to sort before then too (eg I can only run 3 laps before I overheat :D ). working on that tomorrow and next monday when the radiator hopefully turns up - but lets face it this is the 2nd last run at OP (and I don't know the deal with the last race meet) so I will move everything I can to get there.

Anything I can help with? Is it critical to fix before then? I can try and sort a shop if that will help, I have organised one for my car tomorrow

Duncan., yeah dude that would be tops, if you know a shop that could help and knows a wee bit about mx5 1.8l that would be great.

I'll even put their workshop name up in the timing part for natsoft so they get some kudos! heheh

Its got a really rough idle, slight oil leak and is down in a bit of power, Im hoping the motor isnt goooone LOL

Exactly, thats what I dont want to miss out on this event!

Have you got your log book done?

Financially Im not going to be able to make it :P

400 entry, 165 licence, 20 log book - then wear and tear, fuel, food etc - getting the car fixed the week before - its gonna be over 1k for me and with a wedding in March....well, there wont be if I do this round!

ah well, may come down anyway and watch - need pit bitch duncan?

if you do come for a look cone say hi in the control tower!! Will be doin race control

  • 2 weeks later...

sorry to hear that Chris.

looks like I'm right to be there, car is at the workshop but should be back tuesday.

happy too have a hand (hopefully won't be needed) or just drop by and say high.

unfortunately I am banned from production cars because the car is more than 5 years old which is utter crap as far as I'm concerned - the car is otherwise compliant with their production car rules, and other guys I race in NSW state champs are allowed in prod cars because their taxis are less than 5 years old.....so I have to run in open class instead. I'll give it a go but unless it's great I won't be back with those guys.

Thats horse shit Duncan sorry to hear :D

I guess the taxi's knew when you came back that yyou would win again! (what was it, 4 wins from 5 starts?)

yeah f**k them.

do Irace and MRA - prob much cheaper too!

Hey Duncan was it Rod that your were speaking with???

I just had a chat with Garry Willmington and brought up what you are saying..

Go and see him on friday morning before qualifying and have a chat he will more than likely put you in production group... I told him you regularly run in Improved Production...

They are just unsure of new drivers and there times to suit there catogories entering the series ;) They probably think you will be too fast for the Proddy cars

Garry will help you out just go and see him

Hope you have fun and will come down and say hi on saturday!!

P.s Good Luck

Thanks Jess, I'll have a chat to Gary and make sure I take the prod car wheels :D I'd be much happier there since that's what's it built for.

Chris it was Irace that weren't letting me run in production cars (only because of age). I still can and will compete in the NSW Champs in Prod cars.

Jess,,,Druncan runs Combined touring not Improved Production,,,which makes it all the more silly. I will remind early on. Thanks by the way.

You better come down and say HI or we will come looking for you girla,,,we know where you hide. :D:P:D

It's a massively big 3 days for us,,,Duncan Friday/Saturday and me on Sunday. We will be stuffed come Monday.

Neil.

Shit hope I'm quicker in the car than on the keyboard.

I have a huge library of wma files - about 20 gigs (they all are from Napster) and I can successfully listen to them on my home PC.

Now I bought a car mp3 player so I need to burn all my music to MP3 disks to listen to when I drive. And, of course, I can't do it because files are protected. I've done a brief internet research and found many progs that claim to convert Napster wma to mp3. I've tried some of them, because if I pay for the soft to use MY purchased files - I want to know if it worth the price. I think this is what I need. wma to mp3 (drm-removal.com or whatever, ask me - will find it again) What do you think?

Would you folks recommend me something?

No worries always here to help

so sorry i get confused with who runs in what at the moment cause involved in so much lol

i told Garry that duncan will be coming to speak to him in the morning...its more about times and stupid quick cars in the wrong group and the racers not getting a fair race... He will watch your times and then choose right group for you...

Garry runs his meetings a bit different to others  but loads of fun and awesome cars turn out..

Will be at OP on sunday as well...Neil I got to steer Fricker Radical around Oran Park last sunday and it was insane!!!

Good luck to the both of you see you on the weekend...

Love ya work babes,,,It's all understandable,,,thanks again.:banana::banana:

Ben,,,you better get out of bed really bloody early mate. :D:P:D

Sunday just got a bit longer,,,check this out,,,

I have been asked to let you know that NSWRRC has applied for and received approval to increase the number of cars permitted to run from 100 to 125. No registrant that did enter before last weekend will be denied a run.

Obviously the increased number of cars has been permitted because of the immense number of entries for the event as I had predicted in earlier emails. This will be the last competition ever held at Oran Park.

To accommodate the greater numbers there have been some changes to the day as follows: -

1. Instead of finishing at 4/4.30pm the day will finish at 7/7.30pm.

Everyone should get sufficient runs.

2. Scrutineering will start at 6.45am

3. A full apparel check will be done at scrutineering. So drivers should turn up at scrutineering in full race apparel (Suit, shoes and helmet) or at the very least they should all be in the car. I have been told by NSWRRC that if there is no apparel there will not be a pass a scrutineering.

Notwithstanding this, I would hope that everyone makes the scrutineers job as easy as possible by doing the right thing as we do need to make the day run as smooth as possible in view of the number of competitors who are running.

We are going to be dead on Monday,,,glad I'm the 1st group.

Neil.

    • Fark what are the changes of that snapping like that, clean. Nek minnit, custom radiator goes in, with built in oil cooler like those discontinued PWR ones from yesterdeacades ago
    • I thought I'd do a write up on an auto transmission fluid change for a the nissan 7 speed Automatic. At some stage the genius engineers decided that the fluid in the trans was "for the life of the transmission", (which seems kind of self supporting to me) and removed the dip stick and fill tube (funnily enough there is still a casting for it). Anyway, for this job you do need 2 specialist tools in addition to regular hand tools, jack and good chassis stands. You need a way to pump fluid up to the transmission; I got one of these but there are plenty of other options: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364584087070 Don't trust the generic listing though, it does not come with the required adapter for the Nissan 7 Speed. You need one of these, can't do the job without it: https://navarapart.com.au/product/genuine-nissan-patrol-y62-d23-np300-navara-re7-dipstick-fill-connector1 You need a heap of compatible transmission oil. Could be Nissan, could be anything else rated for Nissan Matic S. You need at least 10 litres, I had 15 to give it a better flush... Also, you need some biiig oil catch trays, at least one of these, or bigger if possible (volume was fine, size was very marginal): https://autobarn.com.au/ab/Autobarn-Category/Tools-%26-Garage/Specialty-Tools/Oil-Service/Garage-Tough-Oil-Drain-Pan-Black-16L---GT1068/p/TO03191 Finally, a measuring jug is very useful if your pump does not have volumes marked on it, I got a 6l one: https://www.repco.com.au/oils-fluids/fluid-accessories/measuring-jugs/penrite-measuring-jug-6l-pmj006/p/A5322648 Oh, and gloves.....this stuff is horrible (not as bad as diff oil, but getting there) ....First, jack up your car.....
    • So I mentioned the apprentice, @LachyK helped take the bonnet off. We just undid the nuts on the hinges and unclipped the gas struts, then pulled the bonnet back a little as the front was catching on the front bar.  I had a good look at everything today and have removed the rams, repaired/reset the hinges and bolted it back together like it never happened. I'll do a separate write up on the repair, and I also removed the poppers from the Fuga today too to save grief down the road.....as said above it is at least $5k to repair retail. I'm also happier about my ability to prepare a race car, and less happy about Nis-nault's engineering (I can hear @GTSBoy sAfrican Americaning) because the top hose of the radiator didn't slip off.......it snapped clean off. By practice I put the hose clamp hard up against the flare on a neck to make it least likely to ever move (thanks @Neil!). I guess that puts a little more pressure on the end of the pipe as it is further away from the rad, but still, that is pretty shit. I've put it back on for now as there was a fair bit of neck still there, but obviously there is no lip on the neck any more so I don't think I'll track it again until I have a new rad. Speaking of which....more research required. It looks like Koyo makes a standard size radiator in ally which I'll grab in the meantime, but I really want something thicker so might have to go custom in the medium term (ouch) Coolant still needs a refill and I have the pressure tester on it over night, but other than a wash down of the engine bay it seems alright. And @MBS206 noted something noisy on the front of the engine and I think I agree....time for a new accessory belt and tensioners I think.
    • our good friends at nismo make a diff for it, I have one (and a spare housing to put the centre in) on the way. https://www.nismo.co.jp/products/web_catalogue/lsd/mechanical_lsd_v37.html AMS also make a helical one, but I prefer mechanical for track use in 2wd (I do run a quaife in the front, but not rear of the R32)
    • What are we supposed to be seeing in the photo of the steering angle sensor? The outer housing doesn't turn, right? All the action is on the inside. The real test here is whether or not your car has had the steering put back together by a butcher. When the steering is centred (and we're not caring about the wheel too much here, we're talking about the front wheels, parallel, facing front) then you should have an absolutely even number of turns from centre to left lock and centre to right lock. If there is any difference at all then perhaps the thing has been put back together wrongly, either the steering wheel put on one spline (or more!) off, and the alignment bodged to straighteb the wheel, or the opposite where something silly was done underneath and the wheel put back on crooked to compensate. Nut there isn't actually much evidence that you have such a problem anyway. It is something you can easily measure and test for to find out though. My money is still on the HICAS CU not driving the PS solenoid with the proper PWM signal required to lighten the load at lower speed. If it were me, I would be putting either a multimeter or oscilloscope onto the solenoid terminals and taking it for a drive, looking for the voltage to change. The PWM signal is 0v, 12V, 0V, 12v with ...obviously...modulated pulse width. You should see that as an average voltage somewhere between 0V and 12V, and it should vary with speed. An handheld oscilloscope would be the better tool for this, because they are definitely good enough but there's no telling if any cheap shit multimeter that people have lying around are good enough. You can also directly interfere with the solenoid. If you wire up a little voltage divider with variable resistor on it, and hook the PS solenoid direct to 12V through that, you can manually adjust the voltage to the solenoid and you should be able to make it go ligheter and heavier. If you cannot, then the problem is either the solenoid itself dead, or your description of the steering being "tight" (which I have just been assuming you mean "heavy") could be that you have a mechanical problem in the steering and there is heaps of resistance to movement.
