Hey guys, sorry i had to start another thread but i need some questions answered, feel free to chip in with your opinions please.

BACKGROUND INFO:

Car: r33 s2

Mods: boost T, full exhaust, exedy heavy duty clutch, Bosc fuel pump, pod, Mines ECU tuned to run hi flow on 16 psi.

AIM

To run about 220-30kw on hi flow turbo (which i haven't bought yet but looking) on legal set up so cops don't hassle me.

QUESTION

1. I don't want to run front mount intercooler. My question is, is r34 gts cooler a good upgrade? Or GTR cooler? And how hard is it to install/whats needed.

2. If i was to get r34 hi flow turbo, is it still straight swap or do i need to modify anything (ie dump pipe/ lines)

has been covered to death, you really should search

you will get lots of short answers and smart ass replies

ditch the mines ecu, get a real tuneable ecu

dont bother a smic, get a real intercooler, GTR is same as FMIC

boost controller, pod, ecu and turbo are all either illegal, unallowed or defectable

so the whole "to avoid cop trouble" is pointless. just do what ever mods you want, and make sure they are easily revesable

if you get a nasty cop, you will get pinged for everything. most cops are reasonable

A GTR cooler is a front mounted item.

Either way, upgraded turbo requires a FMIC. You have no choice there.

As for the rest (turbo choices), covered to death. Have a search for that info

boost controller, pod, ecu and turbo are all either illegal, unallowed or defectable

Whilst the above is true, there are certain things that can be done to help you avoid defects.

If you want to run a pod filter create a custom airbox with a cold air intake.

Sneaky installation of the boost controller - in the ash tray (depends on size of control unit) or in the centre console.

Flush mount your gauges in the dash - on the dash or A-pillar will always attract unwanted attention if you get pulled over for anything.

Okay. If i was to get r34 gt-t cooler, could i consider that as an "upgrade"? And is it straight swap for my old one. (i know the r34 cooler is a tad bit fatter so im thinking its a bit of an upgrade) thats basically my question. I had front mount and all they do is ask for unwanted attention and if you get pulled over, you will get done, pod or no pod. (personal experience)

As for turbo, heaps of topics so i will leave that one alone. Cheers.

You cannot get done with a airbox and a FMIC.

The EPA laws clearly state it is ok - just print it out if you are worried. There is no way you can be defected for that unless you chop the chassic/panels.

Anyway, if you get a correctly sized FMIC, paint it black, dont have leb-spec piping visible and hanging out all over the place then you are virtually invisible.

Use one of the JJR return flow kits (or similar brands) and you are set. Uses all the factory bits and does not stand out especially with the factory airbox.

agree with ash, if you fit it correctly and keep standardish mods you should be fine

but it does come down to where you drive, how you drive, luck on the day and the cop etc

ive had my r33 since 2003 with std mods exhaust, fmic, ecu, boost controller, pod

been through numerous booze busses, cop pullovers, etc and no issues at all

if you get a cop that gets the rules wrong, they can say yep intercooler is defect and probably even write it up etc

but its usually clearable quite easily as they have got it wrong, ie if a cop gave me a defect for intercooler, i wouldnt argue it with him there and then

the GTT SMIC is a pointless and utterlly useless mod, anyone considering fitting a r34 GTT SMIC thinking it's an upgrade is a fool

Yeah i agree get a just jap return flow one they are cheap stock piping and do the job quite well and also no cutting and yeah i also finally gave up and went back to stock airbox would always get done for pod and fmic with the boost controoler its eazy enough to hide it somewhere in the engine bay just be creative even under the stock snorkel is good enough and the boost controller in the car usualy doesnt attract much attention as they assume its the turbo timer but if you really wana hide that to then yeah stick it in the fuse box or ashtray

Yeh, i've had 5 blitz return flow coolers and broke them and damage them because of drifting, i could not afford to pay 800 for the blitz ones so i went and brought the JJR one and its now running 233kws . Ditch the remap ecu or whatever, get a highflow if you want it stock looking and get a tunable ecu!

If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
