At the moment I have 3.5inch exhust with just the cannon no resanotor and Im wanting to quiet it down but with no lose of power , anyone got any suggestions of any type of specific resanotor or muffler I can use in the middle that will not lose performance , I dont care about the price. Thanks

Dont use a resonator, they practicly do nothing.

Get a nice Magnaflow, Borla, Di fillipo, gonzo 3 1/2" muffler. the good ones will have proper baffling that will keep it quiet without killing exhaust flow

http://www.borla.com/products/product_mult...t=2&type=72

i nice big oval one is probably the go.

the 4" body round one wont do much for sound reduction...as a 2nd muffler mid stream (between thr cat and the rear muffler) it would be ok....there is plenty of room under the ass of a skyline to get a big muffler in.

I like that centre muffler im looking for something like that. Anyone recommend me good exhust joints in melb to get the work done

Give Rob a call at Sabbadin Automotive, we tried many different combos and mufflers on my R34 GTR including the magnaflow muffler you are looking at (I have it for sale if you are interested, it has only done a few hundred km).

Finally we found a great 3.5inch custom system which is super quiet on the freeway but sounds nice when I push it, with the windows up you can bearly hear the thing!

You are going to need an offset muffler though, give Rob a call, he will sort you out 9558 4422, tell him you want a system like Daves with the Black 34 GTR!

Thanks mate ill give him a call, what area is he in?

You wont be getting good mufflers for $150 mate.

If you want DECENT flow & quiet at the same time it is not going to be cheap.

You can buy custom mufflers from Racepace as well, they are hand made so that they are as big as possible for skylines.

Mine is currently sitting around the 90-92dB marker so pretty much legal depending on the day :P

Yeah im prepared to pay 3-400 for a muffler that I know is going to give me good flow and kill abit of the sound, so racepace have some that are good

Im wanting to keep the cannon on the rear , im not really looking to make it EPA compliant just want a lil bit less noise than I got now so as to help take off attention when driving, so I just wanted to add a muffler in the middle since I dont have one in there atm.

we use al just round the corner, he just did a road legal (passed all engineering and epa limits) system for us nice high flow for big power too, well priced too

als custom exhaust on hammond road (best exhaust guy ive used in vic) does alot of custom headers and stuff for big dollar cars. (saw a genuine gt500 muzzie there the other day)

    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
