I would have thought I would find this info easily but apparently not - I've searched all through these forums and cannot find this info for the life of me!! :)

I'm looking at buying one of these (or something similar). As you can see in the specs, it has a mounting depth of 175mm. I want to put this in the top DIN slot in my car - will it fit or is it too deep?

One other thing that has me concerned is the width - 185mm. Although it does say it is a single DIN-sized unit, AFAIK the standard depth for a DIN unit is only 180mm. Could this just be how they measured it or something? Maybe they're including the plastic surround at the front that shouldn't (?) count?

heap of shit deck. dont waste your time.

DIN is a universal size. if it says DIN, its all the same, and all skylines are DIN.

Meh, I know it's a POS but I don't wanna spend any money on this car. It's basically to get me a pile of functionality cos I like playing around with gadgets and stuff  If it's REALLY bad and starts really annoying me, then I'll go brand name but I want to see what I can get for the absolute minimum before spending a packet.

AFAIK, DIN only specifies the front face dimensions, not the mounting depth? That's what I've found on google so far.

OK, I currently have an Eclipse E3310CMT (old double-DIN CD/MD deck) in there now. Is there any reason why I wouldn't have the factory bracket? (You can probably tell by now that I've never done this before  )

The thing I want to mount underneath the single-DIN unit is one of these. They are 144mm wide, 48mm high and 33mm deep, which will leave some room around the edges. How would I get that to stay in place, and what should I put around the edges that won't look dodgy? :)

The normal brackets will hold double din, you'll find one set of top screw holes for the top din then the same again for the bottom.

You'll need to make up your own bracket & surround for that gauge, you might be able to get a single din pocket cheap then modify that.

If you've taken out the top din (there are 3 din pockets) I don't think that has any standard mounting as that SHOULD be where the aircon sits... The lower two din pockets have the supports you need...

as for depth, I've got a slide out motorized 7 inch screen fitted to mine, it's heaps long and fit with very little troubles... there are a lot of cables at the back and I had to keep them tidy to make it easy to get in and out... fits fine. That's in the middle slot. There

buy a double din radio so it doesnt block your heater and aircon controls. looks heaps better then the slide out ones.

Eonon radios are ok if your just after lots of toys.. I have one(cause it was cheaper then name brands by a long shot) and run it thru a lot of items , menu graphics suck and logic layout is bad but otherwise works just fine,,, watch the GPS /TV plugs lots are marked wrong in back!!!

and the GPS software is out of date a lot on the units from eblow

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
    • Also wanted to say, my new spark plugs are blackened looks like it's very rich. I have splitfire coilpacks but stock coilpack loom and ignitor. I tried directly grounding the ignitor ground to body as well.
