I've had to deal with a tragedy which occured on the first day of 2010. I've had long enough to deal with it with the rest of my family.

My cousin and his family were in that fatal crash on New Year's day on the freeway. First fatality for the year was his missus. She had been in the family for 17 years, so naturally she was family. There is still speculation about the accident being a hit and run. He was trapped in the car with his daughter and partner and watched her pass away. The worst part is, we buried his 2yo son 2 or so years ago, and now we're burying his life long partner. He's really on the edge and not handling things at the moment. But he still has his 11yo daughter to live for. Of course, the whole family is quite glum at the moment. Hard to see that in a guy I grew up with since we were kids ... we did everything together. Played basketball together, hung out, ripped skids together in our teens. He's not the same guy I knew now. Sad really.

I've now got a strong desire to sharing this now as a reminder to you all, as it appears someone's recklessness has killed an innocent driver. There is so much to lose ... and the suffering goes right thru the family. Drive safe and stay alert.

RIP Tracey

Was this the one that involved the Koala on the freeway?

RIP

Yes. It was apparently another car that swerved, hitting my cousin's car, and the other car didn't stop. Its still under investigation, but thats what I'm hearing.

So ... if you can't stop from hitting an animal, then just hit it ... or you could be killing a family.

growing up in the country, one of the first lessons i learnt wen i started driving was to not swerve for animals

i was told theres plenty more koala's,kanga's ect- but if you hurt or kill someone dear to you then thats it..

sorry if that comes across harsh

condolences ruby,chin up mate

Condolences to you and your family mate.

+1 on just hitting the animal.

Reminds me of an accident I had in my Subaru a few years ago.

I swerved to miss a koala, (out of instinct) spun the car 4 times and eventually rolled it into a ditch in the hills.

No koala is worth peoples lives or limbs.

RIP.

Really sorry to hear that story Ruby. I knew that you had suffered a loss and the details make it even worse. I hope things gradually get better for your cousin and he does continue to live and enjoy life with his remaining daughter.

condolances ruby, i drove past there a few times over the last week and a bit and only just put 2 and 2 together...........of all the open space around there too :)

as has been said, ffs, smash your front bar, damage something on your car if theres an animal if you have to.............dont f**king swerve and run someone else off the road

hey man, condolences from down here in vic.

Time will heal all wounds. It is a great loss for everyone - especially when it involves kids too. Only thing that you and your family can do is to rally around him. It will take time, but be there for him.

When its time for him, he might want to see a counsellor or psychologist - its a big ask, but they do help a fair bit. And a psychologist is also free if you go through doctors recommendation and medicare.

Everyone bounces back though - just gotta keep your head up.

RIP

I guess this is another reason why we shouldnt be too conserved with our lives - live life to the fullest and enjoy it such that you live it the way you want to be remembered.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
