Hey kids,

Was at the track and revving 2nd a bit and went to put it fast into 3rd and heard a big crunch followed by it seeming in neutral. Took it out of 3rd n back in and again was like neutral. I got all my others gears just lost 3rd and im left with a bit of pop corn sounding noises while I nursed it back.

who knows there gear box’s?

What models are interchangeable and is it only gtr box’s I can use? I doubt ill put something else in but just food for thought.

Mines a 91 R32 GTR so it’s a push clutch setup.

am i better off getting another 2nd hand box or rebuilding? the snycros were also a lil worn in my box and gave the odd crunch down changing into 4th now and then but other than that it was pretty good.

You can use 33GTR box's you just need to turn the slave cylinder around and also swap another part where the input shaft is. I had a 33GTR box in my car but blew the transfer case so put the 32 box back in.

For some reason my browser is acting wiggy, I deleted my win7 beta installation and installed win7 ultimate final retail, and for some reason the version of firefox i'm using wont let me do what i want to do... and tbh im still installing software so i think its something ill look at later...its annoying the hell out of me tho

could get a 25 box there stronger than 32's and don't have the 3rd gear failure that plagued the 32

EDIT

Ben - why are you now quoting people below your response

granny shifting not double clutchin' like ya should be :)

lol Vu, you don't double clutch (it's not a truck with a crash box), you flat change if you can trust your synchros and gear selectors.......I wouldn't on a 5 speed GTR box though :)

really Chad

there is basically only a couple of gearboxes nissan built RB20, RB25push RB25Pull seen in late model 32 and all 33 GTR's some late model s2 33's might have the pull type gear box too

If you said 25GTS4 box it would have made more sense.

Os Giken kits are also very good, strong gears at a more racing biased ratio

That's what I'd get if I blew the 33 gtr box...

i've seen 2nd hand GTR boxes going for $600-$1500 second hand.

to rebuild a gearbox with nissan parts is around the $4k mark

or go PPG for around $6-10K (like i did)

my 2 cents.

Nigel.

    • Oil change does not trigger code 21. Code 21 is for coilpacks primary side connection. You can try to clear the code with a battery disconnect, hold down the brake pedal to drain capacitors through the brake lights with the ignition on for 10-15 seconds before you reconnect the battery. I have seen R35 coil conversion permanently cause this code with no ill effects so it might be the resistance it wants to see isn't quite right on one or more coilpacks. Could be inside the ECU, could be the harness, could be a coil. You can test it all if you want or just ignore until the car actually starts misfiring.
    • I forgot you have a Nistune ECU. Use Nistune to do all the tests I mentioned instead of faffing with 30+ year old electrical connectors. You can read MAF volts off that too, there are reference values in the service manual to tell you roughly what it should be in different conditions.
    • No. I think it might be the AFM. Hence the use of the terms "swaptronics", which implies the use of swapping out electronics for the purpose of diagnosis. It's about the only way to prove that a small/niggling/whatever problem with an AFM or a CAS or similar is actually caused by that AFM/CAS/whatever. A known good item swapped in that still gives the same problem is likely to be caused somewhere else. They're all the same. Spraying AFMs with cleaner is an each way bet between cleaning it and f**king it.
    • Oh wow! This might actually work amazingly. Do you know the ratio of the diff? I was told the only thing you need to make sure of is if the front & rear diff ratios are the same. Ours is a 4.083 Thanks!
    • You think its the AFM? I know its a common issues on R32s. I find it coincidental how this issue raised right after cleaning the fuel system. As everything except the fuel system was fine before. I tried running it with the IACV unplugged but did not notice a difference and still stalled. However, the RPM gauge is not in the cluster right now, so I will need to connect the laptop again and use Nistune to check the RPM. I will check this weekend.
