I've been a member for a few months now but i never introduced myself.... so HI SAU :P

I'm the proud owner of a series 2 bayside blue R34 GT-T. thanx to kirstian at iron chef imports (cheffie rocks)

she's still mainly stock at the moment except for exaust, P1 buddy 19's and tien coilovers.

i am hoping to spend round 2k on the engine when tax time comes but, i'm still unsure where to get my first part of cheep power. i was thinking turbo + ecu + fm intercooler + external wastegate and blowoff valve.... but all that at once may be out of my price range for now. i have no idear about these things as i used to be a proud commodore owner *pulls blank expression*

any sudjestions = awsome!

thanx in advance XD

Welcome.

Add a POD filter to that list... make sure you get it tuned after too. What power are you looking at making? Because depending on that, you might not need to upgrade the turbo. If you upgrade the turbo, you'll probably need injectors too. But like I said, what kind of power do you intend on making?

Enjoy the car mate. :P

edit: If you search around heaps, you'll find a tonne of info on how to go about modding your car.

enough to scare me for a little while lol i eventualy wanna work up to say.... 300kw at the wheels. i'd prefer to run stock head gaskets so i don't want massive boost. i've been told that the stock turbo on the neo doesn't like to be played with... so would eventualy like to get something a fair bis stronger.

any recomendations as to where to get a decent tune? i don't trust anyone in naracoorte to play with her lol

edit: and where to get rid of that dam speed limiter :P

unless you go to the track i think you should leave the limiter on there. if you are hitting the speed limiter on public streets please sell you car and go hand your licence in at your local transport department because you don't deserve to have one.

as for mods and what power you are chasing, can i just ask why 300kw? the reason i say that is the 300kw is getting towards the limit of what you can do without opening the engine up and spending some big money. my suggestion would be to just aim for the mid 200kw level. that way you still have reliability as well as something that is still very drivable on a daily basis. but if you are planning on doing the mods so you can beat commodores off from the traffic lights, do as i said above and hand your licence in.

i already to go to the track & i'm not running myself broke just so i can have it as a weekend driver. i wish to actualy enjoy my car.

As far as what i do on the street, there is stupid... and there is knowing when and where to keep risks to a minium. can you honestly tell me that you havn't enjoyed a cruse through the hills doing "illegal stuff" if you think that this would be a dispical act, then you don't know my kind of car love. if you do, then please feel free to hand in your licence as well.

300kw is just a rough number. i'll only ever have as much as i can afford and that i'm confident to control.

me being new to this, i'll probaly be happy with 200kw for a little while, but i aim for 300 eventualy.

Yeap, nothing like sucking hot air from your engine bay for performance gains :P

Research what your after and work out how much you can afford then do more research into the mods you want/need and see if they will give you gains for your your $$$$ or if the money spent on useless/stupid mods could be spent on better things like quality tyres/brakes/suspension.

    • Thanks, I checked from the back of the cluster and no reading there. I undid the connector and plugged in the wires directly to start from where I'm getting a reading: https://imgur.com/a/W8JI6Yr Weirdly enough when I tried to get a reading from the crimps that connect to the fuel pump assembly, I got nothing. Not sure what's my next step as I have admittedly limited knowledge with electricity.
    • Agreed with the rest. Also at least based on my own research, there are no readily available stock or close-to-stock RB20Neo maps that you could download and use as a base were you to buy a complete standalone ECU, and the regular 20DET maps don't really work well so you'd need to take it to a tuner if you have no experience. I installed an AEM V2 on my 20Neo+T and had lots of headaches until I got it to run and idle properly but I've yet to remap it fully. You have to start building up your timing and fuel maps entirely from the ground up; even the ones for a 25 didn't work at all.
    • Got some decent progress after work yesterday and also today. Got the ECU all wired and passenger side interior all back together. Kept the wiring up nice and high to avoid people standing on it. Got the surge tank relays rewired and tidied up the pump wiring and cut a hole to bring the cables through.  I found a spare USB cable I had lying around so I decided to cut it up and see if I could use it for my CAN 1 bus. Turned out one of the pins I needed was to the shield of the cable so i cut it up and desoldered it and resoldered to the correct pins.  Had the issue with the powersteering hose hitting the A/C compressor and fan shroud. I pulled the bracket off and modified it to remove the front mounting point which now clears it all. Will keep an eye on it to see if theres any signs of fouling once it's up and running.
    • That's some good input mate. Nice.
