handbrake
I have searched some other similar threads but was after specific advice on this unit. Anyone running the video Vbox lite? Other suggestions regarding combined datalogging and video packages? Thanks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/ Share on other sites
Snowman
I've started using one - although I haven't remotely looked at the datalogging side of things yet. I mostly got one to have the data-overlay on the video. Video wise it works brilliantly - although I'd prefer it if the camera's were a wider aspect like my old POV was. Snowman
Here are a couple of my vids using it. Marlin
The value seems good at the moment for this system. Spotted it in Evo magazine. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5112701 Share on other sites
handbrake
Thanks Snowy. vids look good. See what you mean re angle. like the picture in picture though. Any experience hooking this up with data from the car? RPM? Temps? other outputs? this might be a bit ambitious. sav man
a lot of new cars will run a datalogger straight off the can bus. Polyphony are using the tech with GT5, pull a datalog from your car (on a reconised circuit), and you can put your real runs in as ghost cars Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5112797 Share on other sites
Marlin
I'm nearly certain we had it hooked up to Giant's R35 in TTC in 2008? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5112822 Share on other sites
Snowman
Yeah you can definitely get a CAN interface for the R35. You can't do it easily for the R34 (when using a Power FC) which is why I haven't bothered. I've seen somewhere an awesome on screen dash for the VBox with an R35 using the actual R35 Clutster with the gear selection etc all in place. SlipR35
Mark, We installing the Video VBox pro in my R35 a couple of weekends ago and hardwired it to receive the CAN signal. You can also purchase an OBD connector for the system which makes it easy to quick connect to the OBD port under the dash (if you are not leaving the Vbox installed permanently). I've got the R35 scene (dash) running which Snowy mentions in his post, took a bit of hunting around to get this as it is not included with the system nor from Racelogics scene download area on their website. The software that comes with the Video VBox (i presume it is the same software for the lite version) allows you to customise the scene to show a variety of CAN parameters such as throttle and brake, steering angle, oil and trans temps etc etc, pretty much all the items that you can view on the in car MFD screen. Racelogic have also just released a new circuit software tool which allows you to view your track footage frame by frame against another driver who might have done some laps in your car. Pretty handy for working out where time can be made up if you have a pro do some laps in your car for comparison. With regards to the wider lens I purchased a wide angle lens for the camera which only turned a couple of days ago, apparently to install it you have to take the whole camera out and have it refocused rather than just screw the new lens on, will check it out and see what has to be done. I've customised the R35 scene to include best lap times, current lap times and splits so it's a pretty useful tool. I'll try to get some pics of the install on the weekend and post them for you. If you have any questions with it feel free to give me a call. LSX-438
Will be interesting to see the results. Sounds interesting. Btw i think Mark has the system set up, installed and run at a track day or two. Let's see some video gents! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5162094 Share on other sites
Snowman
Hey Slip - I'm really interested in the wide angle lens. Have you got any more details on it? Also - did you ever get thise Penske's? SlipR35
Hi Snowy, I picked up the wide angle lens from Racer Industries who are a dealer for the Video VBox. I'm sure Protech in Melbourne would also be able to source it for you as this is who I purchased my VBox pro from. I'll have a look tomorrow re how the lens installs and post some info. Yes, the Penske's are fitted up however the car hasn't been off the hoist since they were installed last week as we are finishing off some other work at the same time. Hoping to get on the track shortly to test all the new gear out. Cheers SlipR35. 260DET
Wide angle lens' distort the action and distances, unsuitable for incar video in my opinion. What you need is a *wide screen* capable camera, here is an example using an inexpensive HD camcorder How much more width than that do you need? Note there is no distortion either. handbrake
Seb, you've got everything for that damn car of yours lol Vbox lite up and running as per Dunc. Lame early video runs look good. Getting it hardwired to car for power, CAN bus and video out for the dash screen. Seb, would you mind emailing the gtr scene? Yes the analysis software for the lite seems to have much of what you are talking about with the pro. Very good. Very interested in suspension setup for the r35, might start a separate thread. handbrake
thanks for the scene Seb I have the CAN module hooked up. The Vbox lite version only has 4 channels available so I am logging Brake and throttle pedal pressure, RPM and steering angle I have had Chris from Audio express hardwire the CAN, power and conceal allthe cables to camera mojunting positions. nice setup. also getting video output to the MFD which will be handy! Tip for those as new to this as me: dont unplug the unit whilst it is powered up and hooked into the CAN bus with the car running... freaking thing lights up like a christmas tree Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5193768 Share on other sites

handbrake
anyone here a gun on the vbox at working out how to set up steering angle input from the CAN? I have 2 horizontal bar graphs next to each other bit hard to explain in words but here i go... one on the left (to track turning the wheel left of centre) has the bar graph traveling from centre (right to left) but I cant get the min max values sorted (I would have thought min value 0 and max negative 500 degrees opposite to the other graph but it wont allow a max with a value less than the min) one on the right travels from left tot right and is working well with min angle 0 to max 500 degrees otherwise have all the other can inputs for brake/throttle and rpm working well! this thing is so configurable its awesome. if only I was as smart as it. will post some video once I get this sorted and track the car may 12 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5197565 Share on other sites

Note there is no distortion either. i have the same opinion. I've borrowed a go pro HD, didnt like the wide angle. gives you no sense of turn in etc. I've been using racechrono to data log for a while now. For something that is free and the hardware costing next to nothing its pretty damn good. times come out within .01 of natsoft. (720p camera and racechrono hardware all under $700) the r33 doesnt have ODBII but the r35 will?. there is an ODBII reader for racechrono. they recommend 4-5 channels i think. throttle, brake, rpm etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/310328-data-logging/#findComment-5197600 Share on other sites
