Are you willing to move into an office job or rather be more labour-intensive? If you want an office job that pays enough for you to get by - send me a PM and I will hook you up. Don't expect too much as it will probably office admin behind a desk.

Can most likely get you a job in tiling. The work is harsh, hours are harsh, money is shit for the first 6-12months but you can't expect to have no experience, qualifications and just get into a high paying job. I was in your situation too, now i am back in school because i made the wrong choice by just "wanting to work for money".

Think about it =]

(The tiling job on pays $12.50/hour) After 6 months it will come up about $22.50/hour, depends on YOU. The work is very rough though. Hours between 6.30am - 8.30pm

Send me PM if interested.

mate u are the perfect age to start an apprenticeship, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry.. etc.. Sure the money wont be great when u start. but if u do half decent at it you'll be making 30-50$ dollars an hour when your 22 y.o, DO IT!

get a apprenticeship, im 21 and in my first year and you WILL NOT LOOK BACK yeah the moneys not great but you wont be a shit kicker all your life and you will be on very good money once your qualified.

Mate i was in your position not long ago all i did was chase money at the end the best i could do was nearly 700 a week im 27 now and toward the end i felt depressed and shitty because i was applying for all these apprenticeships and no one wanted me fair enough too.and not just that all my friends where trade qualified or had uni degrees and where earning good money.its a shit feeling being poor mate.LISTEN and listen good do an apprenticeship and find one you like offer your services for free on weekends or during the week or whatever suits you best just because someone says do electrical you may not like it try them all and then make your choice then go do a pre apprenticeship ,you may get picked up during the pre apprenticeship.if you have the intelligence maybe do a uni degree but at the end youll have to pay back a tidy amount of money ,with an apprenticeship you get paid to learn and your debt free at the end and you can earn about the same money as a uni grad

theres no future in unskilled work change youre life now while you can because you might find it very difficult later on .theres also all sorts of incentives from the government now do it mate while you can

thanks for the replies guys,

im definatley going to do an apprenticeship first thing next year, i just cant decide what direction i wanna follow.

the main reason i havent looked at an apprenticeship just yet is purely money issues, in my current situation i cant afford 1st year wages wich is why i will be starting one next year.

i want to do a mechanical apprenticeship but i dont wanna destroy my enjoyment i get from cars, are any of you guys mechanics by trade and still get excited to work on your own car?

thanks again for all your suggestions and thoughts

Agreed with the above - i got a huge hecs and pels bill....and still studying - at the moment trying to get out of my current work and move to soemthing thats more worthwhile.....

Trades is hard work, but the money is good - and like boo5tr said you wont be a shit kicker.

Most of the mechanics I know don't enjoy their job. These people weren't really in to cars in the first place, so why they chose that path is a bit of a mystery. The pay even when you're qualified is not good, but you can supplement your income by doing backyarders.

I'd suggest carpentry as an apprenticeship. They get paid very well, especially working for yourself. My cousin was clearing $2000 a week as a chippy when we were both about 22, while I was working in an office earning $600. He was working a lot of hours though.

Earn enough money and you can work on your car as a hobby and possibly get more joy from it than working on other peoples cars everyday.

If you are after a decent wage after your apprenticeship dont go for a service mechanic.

Getting a trade is a good start though, can lead into other jobs in the same field.

If you need a job fast, get a fork lift license. I know guys on $25/hr plus!

lol ruffels, a good mate is a second year sparky, went into that after the company he'd done 3 years of an electronics apprenticeship at went broke, he's on about 9 bucks an hour yet does everything a tradies does. Apparently sparkies don't have adult apprentice rates in their award :P

I did 3 years of an apprenticeship in printing before getting shafted by the company, spent an entire year trying to get another trade type apprenticeship before I landed my current role which sees me back in IT (way more flexible in terms of work options and also less stress than printing).

Trades are really where it's at, but I'd advise against anything manufacturing based like printing, there's less places to work, and most are reducing the manpower required.

I guess it comes down to whether the business wants cheap labour or they actually want to train someone to do the job, that was the main problem I found with trying to get another apprenticeship/traineeship, that they just want douches who barely passed year 10 so they can legally pay them $250 gross a week!

you also lucked out with several guys in here offering to hook you up!

Im actually a printer also. Been in the trade 8 years. The money is good but the job is very stressful at times. Like anything i guess lol.

Printing is a dying trade though. Not what it use to be. Companies are falling over left and right. Including my last employer, i was very lucky to get another job considering there are hundreds of out of work printers out there.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
