well, had a ball as usual... (as did merowyn, as the Saturday night peeps can attest to lol)

drive up was pretty rude... i still cant believe that people can see a convoy of 50 skylines riding up their ass and refuse to pull over (although i have that same revelation after every cruise) probably got about 5 minutes total of decent driving on the GOR... :(

Saturday night was a pretty tame one for most due to people not wanting to be over the limit the next morning, but a great night nevertheless :bunny:

thanx again ash for the bbq'ing and getting meat-grease all over my lights, stereo, car :D

thanx also for shane bringing a real stereo to the party! my 6x9's with no amp dont really cut it

huge thanx to wayno for all his efforts organising and running the day! top job as usual mate!!!

day 2 was good fun, with a bit of driving and the usual shenanigans...

all in all a great cruise! cant wait for next year!

i have a few more cruises planned for this year now.... including 1 more huge overnighter @ 1500m elevation with the longest hillclimb you are likely to see! ... just gotta sort out the dates...

now if you do the right thing and attend every DECA, that's 6 SAU overnight drinking sessions err... i mean "sober meets" a year people!!!! :(

Bring it on! :)

Vegetarian sausage is all I will add.

never have i seen a man WITH a girlfriend ask soooo many dudes to lick his saussage! :bunny:

Haha you can see my face in the rear vision mirror of one of those pics. Kind of freaky looking.

that shit scares me in real life... i'm too scared to look at the pic :(

Also, We've mentioned this before, but get a decent CB ppl! I think JamesK and I are the only ones with decent 5watt ones with a proper 20 cm antenna. He recommended it to me, and was only $80 off eBay, and works a treat. I think they are called FD-460 or FDC-460. The crappy 0.5-1W ones that most people had with the 1 cm nub antennas couldn't transmit for shit. They are more for kids playing hide-n-seek, not 2km long convoys in mountainous radio-blocking areas. All we got was static on our end half the time.

a few of us had the 3watt one from the group buy which has a 12k transmission range... most of the problem is people talking at 100kph with the windows down..

the only time i was receiving broken transmissions (even from the tiny CB's) was after i left the cruise on day 2 and i was at least 5k away.

LOL Ye as soon as we went past the SS i saw him flip his banana and knew he would be in his car as fast as possible :D

i was like 5 cars behind you and when i flicked past he was ALREADY getting in his car eyeing me off :)

It was fken freezing and then suddenly 26 degrees in the middle of the night :(

man, that was some freaky shit! i was wearing a hoody and then all of a sudden it hits midnight and i'm taking it off! :D:(:P

Tourists should be banned from twisties such as GOR - if I have the power to run this country, first thing I'll do!

Hope my POS is sorted for this cruise.

Yes Merowyn's (finally remembered her name - somehow I forgot when I was writing my mishap thread, sorry!) 'performance' was pretty amusing LOL.

Only photo I have of this 'cruise' is my R on back of the Blue truck, as I don't have camera with me or Peter, will try to do my 'bit' for next cruise.

At least this thing have more torque than the white thing on the back.

Cheers

Grant

on my journey back to anglesea from apollo bay there were people brave enough to ride their bicycles along GOR, they were worse than the morons going 50km/h blocking everyone and ruining it for others.

I reckon next time if possible we leave alot earlier....ie be on GOR by 7.30 / 8am

charles your photos are not loading for me!? :P

do you have an album or link or something?

Since you live so close to me, if you want, I'll burn them all (hi-res) onto a CD for you and you can pick them up whenever you are around my area, how's that :)

I guess that applies for anyone else as well

A BIG THANKS to all who organised the weekend!

Had a great time meeting new people and Nadia had a heap of fun on saturday night :)

Hope all works out Grant, im the guy who bought the gear knob (GTRZLA).

Looks like DECA is a must from the stories told :D

See you all at the next one!!!

We continued on but got broken up into 2 groups, the main group got in front of the white daewoo and old man driving a new MX-5 (will be you in the future Hamish) I got stuck behind, with R34 GTR and the 33 with L plates up. It was HELL!!! the Daepoo was going 35km/h tops about 10 mins down the road they pulled over and I got a big surprise.... Ol Man driving the MX-5 with his white comb over flying straing up in the air and his girl next to him with the hat on FLOORED IT!! He was hammering we both got round and and stuck to him like glue but on some corners I was braking going into them and he was almost tail out driving straight through them! Gotta say, the dude could drive! we played cat and mouse (I was the cat) for about 4km i guess, before he pulled over and waved me past. We had already lost the 34 and the L plater got stuck behind the Daepoo I think (bummer)

haha yeah, stupid Daewoo, was stuck behind him for ages! it was bit hard to do what i liked with my dad sitting next to me. oh well, i still had a great day :D Thanks to Wayne for organizing everything :)

Thanks for organizing this event! Loved it, the best organised cruise i have been on :)

was fun chasing the stagea with a r34 chasing me through the twisties, of what we had, dam that deawoo, i couldn't even see it, but i felt its pain!!

Cheers all, was great :D

    • Had a go at the stuck crush tube this afternoon. Tried things like grips and a chain wrench first but wouldn't just twist straight off. So got to work with a drill. Started small and kept a depth stop on to make sure I didn't drill into the bolt. Made a line of drill holes all the way up and enlarged them. Then a combination of chisel and Dremel to split it all the way up. Levered the split to get oil in there and eventually it gave a bit while levering. Worked it back and forth with loads more oil till it was spinning freely, then with grips I could work it downwards and off. And no significant damage to the bolt (not by me anyway - just the 27 years of rust)
    • Well, I'm tired. I'm tired because about 4PM yesterday, before today's appointment someone immediately bought my bumper. They couldn't get it any other day as they're on the way back to NSW. So I had to do that big GTR conversion I had been planning. Unfortunately, the information on SAU about what you need and how this is done is incomplete. So what should be a simple bolt on affair, yeah, it's not. Did you know if you use all GTR items the bonnet won't close? This little manuever sent me into about 1am the night before trying to dodge a way to get it closed. I will have to revisit this in the next few days  - or maybe not, I may let a body shop figure it out. It all needs to come up and my motivation to pull the bumper off is low. It also seems to hit things in the bay where the GTT bonnet didn't. Yes I used 100% new OEM GTR items. Today, I had the joy of driving to the dyno looking like this: Given I had roughed in the fuel and given sensible but pretty conservative timing, I didn't really bet on having the car drive out any real difference than when it drove in. Sadly due to a miscommunication and laptop fun and games (and almost bricking the dongle, prayers and firmware updates indeed), I ended up using HP Tuner credits to licence the car that was already licenced. So in the end my laptop was used. It turns out my butt dyno is still well calibrated after all this time. The 325kw was on 74% Ethanol, the 313kw line was on 98. The other line is the 'before' line which was 281kw. While the numbers are pretty low, they're pretty in line with what you'd expect. Even if US dynos bump the whole result up about 50KW, gaining 10-15% is similar gains.  The curve of the cam is pretty much spot on with what was discussed as well. All this said, it still feels bad to not see the number you secretly want to see. Even if the car drove great beforehand, and I knew pretty confidently the car would drive out much the same way it drove in due to the nature of a wellish dialled in LS1 not gaining much if anything at all from being tuned from where it was. As expected, the car isn't particularly sensitive to running it at anywhere between 12.0 and 13.0 - And the initial timing at 20deg and 12.0 made 308KW. So 3 degrees of timing, and leaning it out to 12.7 for 5kw, anything above stopped giving any benefit until E85 (which has an additional 2 deg as before). Car itself behaved entirely fine. I found out that 100C = 1.15V! IAT at about 7pm was 19C. I might mess with the bonnet mounting.. but given the REO NEEDS TO BE CHOPPED TO FIT A GTR BAR this is possibly something I may leave gathering (more) dust until it returns to paint jail.
