No mate I didn't, Mick and I rolled up after you had already shut the car off. Blue smoke is bad, black is ok but not blue, Oil getting burnt is not a good thing. Could very well be turbo related, maybe you shot a wheel off or something?

Peter said he didn't see any blue smoke so that could be a good sign, I know blue smoke means piston rings, black - overfuelling, that is why Trent said it may be 'cooler piping or AFM when I first described the problem but somewhow I forgot to mention about the screeching sound.

Grant mate. Its never a good sign to see a bonnet up and bits sitting everywhere.....

Jack has always looked after the guys. ive come close to needing his services myself. perfect time for the upgrades though mate and i hope it all turns out well. next time ill sit down and have a few beers with ya

Ron, yes I hope we'll sit and have few beers and laugh at my misfortune - actually when I got home I just smiled and laugh at myself for no reason!

Yeah it is never good about the bonnet up and bits everywhere on driveway at motel in middle of nowhere!

Yes Jack's dad did look after me and Jack is coming to my place tomorrow to pick the GTR.

The fate of my GTR will be known by tomorrow and like everyone hopes that is a simple fix but we'll see.

Cheers

Grant

You sure gave me a scare when I come around that curve , and there was your car on the other

side of the road. I'd thought that you'd missed the corner and hit the guard rail.

I'm sorry that I couldn't give you a hand with anything , since I know nothing about engines , & there

was already quite a few people already around your car at the time.

I feel your pain with the $$$.

My car needs new rear tyres ,brakes checked (they squeal) ,I've got misfiring and my

100k service is coming up.

Henry,

I know where I parked the R isn't a ideal place to park, nothing on this road is a good place to park and enjoy the sight of broken car!

No worries on not being able to help me I'm not that good with tools either but I have a fair idea what makes Skylines tick (I had 32 GTST and 33 GTST before this), that is what mechanic is for.

Yes my 100k service is also coming up... If the turbo is gone, I'll just whack HKS 2510s i've got sitting in my garage along with PFC + Boost Controller kit, OS Giken Triple plate clutch and go for broke. Good thing my work have given me more shifts.

That is quite nice picture of my R, the height looks alright but I'd like to go lower another 10-15mm though.

Cheers

Grant

height is perfect, any lower and you destroy the roll balance.

Hmm... that is no from you then?

yeah, but he'll look good while he's destroying it :ermm:

That is the aim...

Now, I'm waiting for the tow truck.

Cheers

Grant

Hi all,

It's fixed!!!!

Pictures below will tell you all what I broke.

See anything out of ordinary?

Well...

Actually if you look closer...

IMG_0048.jpg

Yes, I broke a clamp that holds FMIC piping on passenger side.

The cause of my drama was FMIC piping blown apart. I'm pretty relieved to be honest cos I was facing the prospect of broken turbo or worse a RB26.

Before I arrived Trent's workshop, Jack @ Citywide Towing told me that my problem is defintely a 'cooler piping and he was right - Having a GTR for 8 years, he'd know.

So I'd like to say thanks to Jack for going out to my way and tow my 'broken' GTR. Your truck is pretty impressive, remote control of the tilt tray is quite cool.

Also I'd like to say thanks to Trent for fixing the problem and gave me new clamp then it's as good as new. I'm a very happy camper now.

Cheers

Grant

fun when you get a clamp costing you 600$. I payed 350 to get my car towed back from wakefield to canberra, and it turned out being a loose water pump pulley bolt.

Yeah it is sure fun when you have losing your mind, sleep over one minor thing!

Thank god it's all over.

Yeah, I'm pretty relieved that it turned out to be something simple.

Its good to hear buddy

Pitty it did cost you $600 because of something minor ;)

But at least everything is all sweet now and ready for another cruise xD

i knew it! i wasnt 100% certain it was the pipe seams i have an R32 but when my car did exactly what yours was doing it turned out to be the intercooler pipe on the intake side. heavy duty hose clamps fixed this problem for me.

great news mate! im having a beer right now to celebrate the good news!

yaaaay my guess on Saturday was right!! woohoo!!!

Good to see that it was a simple quick and cheap fix, not something you see very often in any import, especially a GTR.

Note to self, carry spare hose clamps, tools and other stuffs in car on cruises. I had spare oil, zip ties and vaccum hose but not clamps.

Good to see you were not charged a fortune by someone trying to rip you off for a 5 minute job and saying your turbo was stuffed and needed fixing and just replacing a hose clamp(well done Trent)

Hope to see you again on another cruise better luck next time at least you got to stay for the BBQ at the hotel...

cheers mick

haha thats my motto... not that you'd notice with my cars height.. :(

Haha, your 33 does look damn good with Eurolines and proper low.

nice simple 5min diag and fix, there was no way in good conscience i could charge for 5mins work.

As I've told you earlier, you're a champ.

Its good to hear buddy

Thanks, yes it hurts that I had to get it towed, damn GTR. And it's ready for another cruise to come.

Pity GTR are a flamin mongrel to work on, how I missed my old GTST.

Next time we see each other, we'll have couple of beers.

Peter and I are still talking about your R especially when you told us what you've got and how much you spent, it's insane.

Actually, bring a workshop with you next time you cruise.

Yes, Trent is a champ for fixing my R without bending me over and he is always happy to answering my questions, also Peter and I had wonderful at the lodge where we were stranded, meeting awesome people of SAU, had a good chat with various members and checking out some Skylines.

Cheers

Grant

Hey Grant, great to her it was only a cooler pipe hose clamp, I knew it would be the one on the passenger side aswell.

Reminds me of a few years back when I was at Sandown one day when the pipe blew off, wouldn't idle properly and got towed off the track. This happened 5 times in a row on the same day in every seesion!!!

Once I changed all hose clamps never had a problem again.

Was good to meet you and one day might find the time and come to one of the cruises.

Good on Trent on looking after you aswell...

Cheers,

Jack

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
