Phew! What a weekend...

I'll keep my comments short and sweet, and leave all the reviewing to Nick, Carlo and the other SAU lads that went... they'd have a "better" perspective of the show than me, as I'm not so fazed by Japanese standard showcars anymore.

It was yet another memorable event, the highlight for me was definately meeting Dave, Troy, Nick, Carlo and the rest (not to forget Barry and the UK boys - sorry if I forgot some names).

As for the cars - there'll be the requisite Photo Diary chapter added by Tuesday... so I'll leave my comments to just one: Light Blue Do Luck R34 GT-R. The Bollocks. By far my favourite car there on the day, and the full-carbon fibre HKS Lancer Evo VII was a close second... if not for outright speed, as was seen on their Tsukuba time attack video, with the HKS Evo running a flat 55'00"00 secs.

I had a great time, although we got split up pretty early on and we didn't get the SAU group photo!!! And I didn't get to introduce the SAU crew to the C-West guys... next time:(

Over to the other guys that went...

Ditto - the Do Luck Styled R34 GTR was the best in show (by far) for me. I want  I'll even sell body parts! :D

It was great to finally meet many of you!! Nice to see such a great turn out from the UK boards! (soggy, Ben and crew) Sorry we weren't able to hook up again later in the day, everyone kinda dissappeared early on and the event is so large you can spend hours walking around it and not see the same person twice! :)

I had a superb day and thanks go to my wife, who despite being 8mths pregnant managed to walk around for several hours at the event grabbing as many freebies as she could! ;) (and keep an eye on me and those lovely race queens...:))

Hope to see you all again at TAS 2005 - or maybe the Nismo Fest? :D

There's a bit of a thread going on in the regional forums (NSW), with some photos uploaded. But I'll upload my (poor :() efforts here aswell...

Regards

Dave

Nah, I used a crappy disposable camera, had them developed and then dusty off my old scanner and set to scanning in the good ones! The rest of my photos are very poor :D I have a digicam, but somehow managed to leave the house in the morning without it...;)

There's also a thread going on PF (off topic) and the UK GTR register with a few photos. Troy suggested I come over your way for the Osaka Auto Messe 2004 - quick question: When is it?

Osaka Auto Messe:

Now worries, found their website (here ).

Hmm...Feb 8th or 9th. Not sure I'd be able to make it, will have to check but I might have a yochien event that day. Will let you know. As for the show - I get the impression it's basically the same as TAS? Is it worth making the trip out, especially after going to TAS a month earlier?

Dave, if you can make it to the Osaka Messe, that would be awesome.

It's from the 6th-8th of Febuary.

Osaka Auto Messe

This time, it'll just be you, me, Troy and a another guy, so we should be able to move throught the show pretty well. We should do something special for SAU/GTROC UK etc...

Hey May Boyz...

It was great meeting up and the extended lunch break was a good thing for the ladies :P.

Dave if you can make it over for OAM2004, then it would be great. The feature cars from the popular tuners will be the same but still plenty to see. Plus Osaka is our town (Rezz and myself) so there is plenty to do.

Rezz I tried calling you yesterday to see if you wanted the photos, here's one of them. Also I'll be heading to Nanko Thursday night, if your free tonight give me a call tonight at home after 9pm I can bring the rest of the photos over.

My thoughts on TAS this year was some of the cars were the same from last year but there was still plenty of new ones and the race queens were definitely better IMO.

Hey May Boyz (nice one! :P)

Thanks for the invite...I really want to go as it'd be a great opportunity to head out to Kobe/Osaka etc, check the cars and hang out, but unfortunately I can't make it.. ;):) :)

One of the kindergartens I work for has their English Music Festival on those days. Since we're doing a bilingual play and as I'm the lead role there's no way I can get out of it without letting them and the kids down big time...:(

Sorry!

Next year I'll try and make sure it's scheduled for a different weekend!

Hopefully we'll be able to arrange something later in the year.

Dave

    • Update: O2 sensor in my downpipe turned out to be faulty when I plugged in to the Haltech software. Was getting a "open circuit" warning. Tons of carbon buildup on it, probably from when I was running rich for a while before getting it corrected. Replaced with new unit and test drove again. The shuffle still happens, albeit far less now. I am not able to replicate it as reliably and it no longer happens at the same RPM levels as before. The only time I was able to hear it was in 5th going uphill and another time in 5th where there was no noticeable incline but applying more throttle first sped it up and then cleared it. Then once in 4th when I slightly lifted the throttle going over a bump but cleared right after. My understanding is that with the O2 sensor out, the ECU relies entirely on the MAP tune and isn't able to make its small adjustments based on the sensors reading. All in all, a big improvement, though not the silver bullet. Will try validating the actuators are set up correctly, and potentially setting up shop time to tune the boost controller on closed loop rather than the open loop it is set to now. Think if it's set up on closed loop to take the O2 reading, that should deal with these last bits. Will try to update again as I go.
    • More so GReddy oil relocation kits, sandwich plates, etc. all use 10AN fittings. And same, I've only used 10AN and my car sees track work (circuit, doing laps, not 10 sec squirt business).
    • street use or race track, what hose size and why? what factors change with the hose size options ?   see most comon is an10. when you see most oem external coolers are closer to an12? does high volume oil pump like nitto need an12 or 10 be just fine
