r33 Brake Pads and Disc's

Hey guyz, my car is of need of new front brake pads and disc's. I went to nissan in Dandenong and said that they can gimme the font pads for $140 (only need front ones) is this good? If not where can i get them cheaper. Also they said that they can get me the Discs imported from Japan for $239 each (brand new). If these prices are too high and u know of a place where i can get it cheaper plz post it up. Thx. South, South-eastern Suburbs

u can get them even under $100 depending on what you get. Supercheap auto even stocks DBA pads and things these days. They're the same pad as you need for aussie S14 (200sx) onwards so just match the part numbers for them in the store if they go "uerrr, whats an R33"

yes i would buy them at that........although there may be some people here that disagree with me on the following statement----->I wouldnt personally use ANY australian made mechanical parts on my car.....go for the genuine parts at that price

Maybe i am anal but i believe that the japanese built a fantastic car...you should back a fantastic japanese car with fantastic japanese parts!Not to mention the japanese aftermarket brakes like endless ect...i have these fitted to my car and have seen other products not work as good or wear out fade ect on friends cars.....Just my thoughts!

Why not??

When I had the stock pads in my car, I had to REALLY stomp on the brakes to bring it to a very quick stop...... Then when I got the Racebrakes pads in (which are made in melbourne) I could lock the front wheels up at 160km/h......

That comment is a little naive, sure in general, the japs make better stuff, but that doesn't mean EVERYTHING made here is crap....

Take it on a case by case basis. We should (and most are) utilise these forums, and ask others of experiences they have had with various products, whether they came from japan, or from some mob across town!

So in response to your questions krzysiu, I dun think it is worth it for the standard pads. Even Bendix Ultimates feel much better than the standard pads, and they are rated to work at higher temps too. I got mine for $100 from autobarn on Nepean hwy, (brighton or moorabin)

As for the rotors, I'm pretty sure dba had a slotted replacement for the R33 at a cheaper price than what you got quoted. I wouldn't get the cross drilled, and they are more prone to cracking at higher temps. Porsche and other manufacturers that have cross drilled brakes as standard/option on their cars actually forge them with holes, making them structurally stronger. Drilling them is apparenly no good.

http://www.dba.com.au/rotors_slotted.asp is the link to the slotted discs. As predator said, supercheap stock them, so get a price from them first and let us know...

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
