Hey,

The other day I took my R34 GT-T for a spin with a couple of the boys from the ACT,

it was all well and fun and full off speeding around corners as you do. etc.

but now when my revs are around about 1100rpm-1500rpm when the car is actually moving

I hear a small rattle from somewhere up the back. I think it might be the diff, but I haven't noticed

any other problems like it being any slower or any worse for wear.

Has anyone else experienced this sound its kind of like a buzzing/rattle, metal on metal and has a brrrrrrr sound but whiny.

That's probably the best I can describe it. I'm taking it to a mechanic tomorrow but I thought I'd check up on here to

see if anyone had any idea what it might be and what its gonna cost me.

Cheers, Dean.

sounds normal to me!!

you should only be down this low in 1st!

don't use 5th at 60kmh.

as for what it is, it could be 1 or many things. could be something loose in the boot (jack, etc) or something down one of the side passages of the boot. it could be the diff, it could be a diff mount, etc. the list is rather long of possible causes.

What kind of clutch are you using? I have the same noise as well and I"m using twin plates clutch

I think it could be thrust bearing on the way out. The sound disappear after you've gone past 1500

rpm isn't it? IMO I think it's okay to cruise in 5th gear at 60km/h, saves me more fuel :D

that really depends. in a turbo car, with their lack of torque at that sort of revs, the moment you come to the slightest incline, or even hit a headwind, you will end up using more fuel than if you were in 4th. i've done tests in my pulsar (natro sr20) using a consult cable and program and the difference in fuel used between 4th and 5th on dead flat ground cruising at 60kmh was 0.5L/100kms, however the moment you get to the slightest incline, or have to accelerate after slowing down a bit, 4th gear is more economical as you can use a lower throttle percentage. in a turbo car where there is much less torque at the lower revs i'd say that this would be even worse. remember that fuel economy isn't just based off revs, it more has to do with throttle percentage. you can be in 5th gear at 2000rpm with your foot flat to the floor and use more fuel than being in 3rd gear at 4000rpm using 20% throttle

It still has the factory clutch, but it stops after you accelerate past that, I took it

to the mechanic to day and he said that because the exhausts have a heat shield around them

sometimes rocks get stuck in there and can make a rattle, because when you don't press the

accelerator to hard while at a standstill it makes no noise but when you give it a bit, you hear the rattle

but i always hear it around 1400rpm no matter what gear I'm in. So i'm not really sure the stock exhaust

is being replaced with a full 3' in 2 weeks so if it's how the mechanic said then the rattling should stop.

Fingers crossed.

    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
