Looking thro the forum, there seems to be some info, but not enough. Perhaps some one with a little experience can share their knowledge here. It would be nice to know the external markings of these gearboxes and the ratios they come with and which model engines they can be mated to. xplosive32 Posted July 21, 2010 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Hey so i need to know the same thing, does anyone know how to tell the difference between an rb20 and rb25 gearbox from the caseing, ive just pulled my engine and box out and was told when i bought the car it was a 25 box but i know the guy i bought it off and hes usualy full of shit... so yeh just something to look for to be sure would be great he also said it came out of an r34, any difference ? Birds Posted July 21, 2010 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Noticeable difference in size between turbo and non turbo gearboxes. Google image is your friend, or eBay listings selling those gearboxes. R33 and R34 RB25DE boxes are smaller than their turbo counterparts, so it might well have an "RB25" box but this does not mean it is the bigger turbo box.
