Hey guys,

I don't really know where to post this question as it doesn't really have much to do with the Skyline itself so I apologise in advance, but I'm just wondering whether the APEXi Power FC for the RB25DET is really discontinued or not. The reason I'm asking is because I am really confused how a product which have been proclaimed by everybody, and even tuners who I recently contacted, to be discontinued could be popping up on sites such as Nengun and eBay as brand new. I have asked one of the seller on eBay and he said to me that they actually still do make it albeit in limited numbers and only to certain distributors. Is this true? I don't want to believe him only to find that it's actually a replica of the original.

Anyway, I apologise if this have been answered or cleared up before but I have tried to research both on the internet and the forum, but ever since 2006-2007ish when everyone said that it had been discontinued, I can't find much update or information on them.

Once again, sorry if it's a bit off topic but I'm currently on the market for a PFC and just need this to be cleared up before I make any purchase :S

Thanks guys,

Rian

They don't make them anymore, don't listen to ebay sellers. They have started making a new version of it, which is what Nengun sells, and you will probably find that the ebay ones are either not brand new or the seller has had them sitting for quite a long time which isn't unlikely.

But why do you want to buy brand new? Bloody expensive brand new, you might as well get a ViPEC for a better price. Scope out the for sale sections, much better prices second hand. For example: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ap...33-t323468.html

The only reason I wanted to buy a brand new one was because for the few days that I have been looking around, the majority of them are selling for $1200-$1500 second hand, which is not that far off from the price of a brand new one on eBay. So why wouldn't you consider buying a new.

But damn man. Thanks for that link. You quite literrally saved me a shitload of dosh! I am assuming that if I was to get it proffessionally tuned, I don't need the hand controller?

Thankk youu veryy muchos!!

You're still lucky man... u can get stuff used from other guys there!

Right now i'm looking for a pfc for the 25 as well and my only options are from ebay aus which sucks because i'm on the other side of the globe.....Ive been hunting in the usa but with no luck

There are not many options here at all and stuff that are available.........well i shouldn't say available, but could be ordered through authorized dealers here are exp like shit and they dont even tune them.....

An eg is the vipec pnp which works out to about $4500 aus and thats without tuning!

Ultimately i want the pfc because i will be doing the tune for myself and this looks like the easiest to tune by far plus i like the use of the hc to monitor but i'm really

frustrated now and it looks like i might have to go in the direction of the emanage ultimate instead which looks confusing as hell for a novice like myself!

Ive read Trent (Status) emu thread probably about 3 times now and from those who are using it seems to have issues to iron out still

So are there any well known sau traders willing to hook me up with a 25 pfc..... It MUST be tested and in good working condition tho because i dont want to fork out for it and ship it to the Caribbean and then end up with probs......

Dont know if i can trust the ones i saw on ebay aus. with the "no warranty on electronics" thing!

Any advice?

Can u give me more info???

As i said i'm not in aus.

Thanks

You can buy a plug in Link (a ViPec is a rebadged Link) straight from the factory in New Zealand for about NZ$2000:

http://www.linkecu.com/

or there are US distributors:

http://www.linkecu.com/dealers/dealersusa

Oh OK I see you are not in the US - well just get one from NZ and get the tuning software as well and tune it with a laptop - assuming you have all the gear - wideband afr meter, ex temp guage, etc etc ...dyno?

some models are still made, some are discontinued

ECR33 is the most common problem one, discontinued as NEC no longer make the NEC PF74 (or FP74 cant remember) processor needed for it

ap engineering units are no longer made

pro versions are no longer made - these were made by ap engineering

BCNR33 / BNR32 / BNR34 / EVO / WRX etc units are still avaiable new from apexi

so yes they are still made new (some models)

for discontinued models (such as ECR33) you have to resort to 2nd hand units

ok that's a new one i havent seen

this is a special kit made by nengun directly and it includes

BCNR33 Powerfc

Field one touch loom patch kit

apexi rsm

map sensor + sensor harness

djetro sensor harness

air temp sensor

base tune for ECR33 djetro

all in a compete kit for $1960 delivered it looks like

i suspect the loom kit theyve used pairs up the map sensor input and also performs the other wire changes that cubes identified are required to make BCNR33 PFC work on ECR33.

yeah its a GTR R33 PowerFC, it has always worked on ECR33

the Mafia did it and cubes did it as well

you need to make some wiring loom changes (i suspect the field one touch loom kit theyve used does this) and some tune changes

the known gotchas we found was

if you DATA INIT- it will go back to BCNR33 defaults instead of ECR33 tune, so what happens here?

no support for VCT - sluggish car overall

bonus support for air temp sensor included

it will be interesting to see if the nengun/apexi actually remap the BCNR33 PFC or just supply a generic one

if its remapped properly (ap engineering stlye) then when you DATA INIT, it will come back as ECR33 Djetro and also VCT would be included if they remap it properly

no idea, it doesn't say

so the unknowns at this stage

why is the RSM included

is it a Ap engineering style remap (ie permenant remap, so DATA INIT is OK)

or is it a BCNR33 with a custom tune (ie DATA INIT will revert back to BCNR33 defaults)

does ETC VERSION show RB26DETT or RB25D1 / RB25DETD1

is RB25DET VCT supported

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
