not sure of the exact model my A31 is but its one down from the turbo one, its a 1991 facelift 1, RB20DE with LSD and HICAS,

Im wanting to change this to RB20DET, will this conversion require me to upgrade the brakes, even though mine are the same as the turbo version?

depends where you're from man

i want to say no but i'm not your government...

i didn't change the brakes myself when i converted... i probably should have but i didn't.. not cos it doesn't slow down i just ... wouldn't have minded bigger brakes haha - i'm from WA

i don't imagine you would need bigger brakes though

Dan_J is having this problem.

Nissan part numbers claim that the Ceffy brakes are ALL the same, turbo, non turbo, etc...which are variant to the SR20DET brakes.

Dorigecko has a registered RB25DET Cefiro, with stock Ceffy brakes, because they're "turbo model brakes" the engineer signed it off.

Personally, I think the stock single pot brakes suck the biggest, gayest balls imaginable....4 piston brakes for the win.....no really...they pull up WAY better. They'll be more lenient when it comes to registration if they can see you've gone the extra distance with brakes.

Not only is it registered, but it's passed pits with the standard brakes. Three times. Mine pull up just fine EVEN WITH MY FOUR STUDS OF AWESOME.

Ehem. The only problem I see is that the rear discs are a pain in the balls, because no other car that I've found uses the same discs as the ceffy. Definately not S13 because it's drum in disc on ceffy, hydro/mech clamp for the silvias and skylines.

A brake upgrade is always a good thing, so I say do it aswell. If I had the money to spare, I definitely would too. FFS Nic is doing it on his RB20E ceffy. The only way he's gonna get to use them properly is if he stings it at 180km/h in a school zone with a 10km run up, and needs to stop in 100m because of an 84 year old who looks way too much like a 6 year old child.

And when is that going to happen Nic? When, I ask you?

If their anything like the guys in Darwin just use the jedi mind control, like i did when I got my car registered.

First question 'Whats a CEFINO??'

Second mind blowing statement.

You can't have that!!! -----> points to HICAS under car.

Its HICAS four wheel steer FROM factory (wave hand in front of face) - Inspector ; Ah Ok.

I dought (IMO) that they will realise you have change from 2 pot to 4 pot brakes. Even going 4 stud to 5 stud (correct me if I'm wrong here) Well they wouldn't here as they didn't notice my brake upgrade.

PURE GOLD

all non turbo ceffy's come with 250mm wide by 22mm thick front rotors similar to the non turbo s13 sr20de

turbo ceffys came with 280mm by 22

if anything upgrade your's to sr20det s13 brakes for cheap

cheers for the comments guys, Im in qld, doing a brake upgrade is on the cards, depending on weather or not I buy a complete donor car for the conversion, if so i'll go the 5 stud route like I have in the past,

at the moment theres a complete motor/box there if I want it, I may get it if I can get away with the stock brakes,

the fact is the RB20DE is mind numbingly slow, before that I had a 20E one in NZ and that was just awful

toffy, is that the r32 ones? They'd need to be redrilled for 4 stud wouldn't they? I tried with S13 rears without knowing that they were different. Was like.... Where are the vents man. What did these people do with them... But yeah. COMPLETELY different. If you can do 5-stud, go for it. be heaps easier for parts as 32 GTS-T or S13 SR is alot easier to find.

at the moment my rear discs are... well below what they should be. skimmed to within an inch of their life. not happy-making i tell you!

  • 2 years later...

Hey Ive got an s13. The front hubs discs and calipers are from a part cefiro a mate had a few years ago. I need new dics (these are scalloped now) but cant remember what they were off so dont know what I need to get

are the A31 Facelift / non facelift / 20de and 25de the same discs, or does each have a different setup ?

They are on the car so I cant measure right now, but they were much larger than the original s13 ones I had.

Need to get fresh discs so I can get the rb20det certed.

4 Stud.

Strap for cash so please dont go off topic about 5 studs or re drilling etc etc

cheers

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
