Thanks for the offer Bob. Unfortunately I'm in Newcastle, and I don't get down to Sydney too often. I might take you up on this offer one day though :D

Cheers,

Michael

PS I can tell you now, without even having seen your car, that you should have bought a manual :D

The X turbo is definitely not the model down. Here's the extras that it gets over the plain turbo -

Xenon lights standard (option for 25GT)

Automatic light system (not available on 25GT)

Driver's seat vanity mirror (not available on 25GT)

8 speaker "Holographic" sound system with CD (25GT has 4 speaker cassette with no option to go to the 8 speaker setup)

Hmmm, not quite right, unless I'm confused about what I have sitting in the driveway!

My 34 GTT 4 door has (had) the Xenon lights, DOES have the Automatic light system, DOES have a drivers seat vanity mirror, and DOES have the Holographic sound system with a CD (it sounds pretty good, which is why I haven't replaced it). Are you saying my car is a X Turbo??? Why wouldn't I see any 'other' sign ie it has the standard GT badge...

Thoughts?

And as far as I can see, a GT-X Turbo would have a model number like -

B (4 door)

GK (RB25DE, or RB25DET)

B (2WD + electric super hicas)

R (right hand drive)

E (250GT,25GT, 25GT-X)

F or A (five speed or auto)

R34

U (Intercooler & turbocharger)

DA

ie BGKBREFR34UDA for 5 speed, BGKBREAR34UDA for auto.

where mine (being a GTT!) has a T (25 GT Turbo) replacing the E...

ie BGKBRTFR34UDA for 5 speed, BGKBRTAR34UDA for auto.

So I suspect you may not be right about those features only on a GT-X Turbo, alternatively, nissan didn't get the E/T letter right - it interesting to note that they don't specificly mention the 25GT-X TURBO as a model in the info above...

Thoughts again?

Ian

ian, that's definitely a GT-X you've got there. If that GT-X badge posted in this thread earlier is real, then you've just been debadged. Otherwise, they do just look like any other 25GTt.

If you go to the Nissan History site, it definitely shows those things I listed as being for a GT-X. I'm 99.9% sure that's what you have.

anymore pics of your 4dr Rob?

I was after a 4dr 34 turbo manual, but couldn't find one :(

Do you mean me? I thought about manual but like you couldn't find one in 4 door. I'm told that the importers assume that people who buy 4 doors expect the buyers to be older and therefore lazier I suppose. The words "executive types" were mentioned to me and to be honest that's kind of what I am although I really hate to admit it (I'm still clinging to my youth).

People who import their own seem to get the coupes.

The whole importing thing has become more accessable as time has gone on so I expect to see more Stegea's and 4 doors and other different, fast but practical cars. I've always been a practical person in that sense, no family but I often fill my car up with friends.

Hmmm, looking at the history site -

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/u...%2Fframe4d.html

you are completely correct...

So I've gone hunting on the internet, to see if the GT-X bage earlier on this post is original. The quick conclusion I've come to is it isn't, as I can't find a single other 'Gt-X' turbo car with it on..

Interesting enough, I found exactly my car labled as a GT-X turbo in quite a few places, ie

http://www.geocities.com/hpl912/gallery.html

the "skyline 25 GT-X turbo" is exactly my car (don't they look good for a 4 door.. :-)

as is

http://www11.plala.or.jp/minato302/PATLIGH...car/201/201.htm

(of course, a GTT and GT-X are going to look the same..)

In that case, yo CAN NOT tell a -X turbo from a GTT - it has the same model number, and does NOT have a ugly GTX badge like the one in this posting. It's obviously just a short hand for a GTT with eXtra options...

and it doesn't bother me that I have a GT X turbo instead of a GT... :-)

i'm almost 100% sure the GT-X badge is a home job because i've also seen GT-T badges in the GT-R arrangment. The red letter always seems to be done very dodgely - here's an example of GT-T (GTR) badge - no thanks....

if the they got the silver/chrome surround of the Red letter right, it might be ok, and the red it too...... red :) I think the GTR red is slightly darker. Looks like a T i would make back in MatTech at school!! :spank:

    • @Darrel It's so tempting to say e85 is borderline magic. It cools the intake charge, so if you're flirting with the edge of the turbos compressor map it helps dramatically cool down the hot air the turbos are pumping. It is very resistant to detonation so you can crank the timing, I don't really want to say you won't be knock limited anymore.... but you probably wont be knock limited anymore lol. I wouldn't be surprised if you made 20% more power swapping to e85 (provided you have the fuel system to support them, bigger injectors maybe bigger pump etc).
    • @Murray_Calavera nah, not available yet, they're gearing up for it but won't be available for a few years. So you reckon fuel is the main issue? When this bottom did over 600rwhp it was running big single, twin Z32 MAFs and believe it or not, e manage blue, an old school piggyback 😅 not really a fair comparison but I guess it shows how a big single differs to smallish twins.
    • @Darrel Can you get pump e85 where you are? If you want to max out those turbos, e85 + bigger modern injectors will be the easiest way to get you there.
    • Hi @Butters , thanks for your reply. Pump 97 BTW but yeah, I get that old tech is what it is and can't compare to modern stuff but I still believe 500 is achievable, even with these smallish twins. Their effective limit is around what, 24 psi? Intend to go single one day but then again, I'm not chasing big power and might not be worth the investment. Just wondering what if any factors are limiting my setup after a few changes. Let's call this Dyno 02. This is after R35 MAFs, 720cc injectors, DW300 FP, HKS step 2 264/264 cams.
    • Was away on holidays last week and hadn't heard from powder coater, so I gave them a bell and it was all ready. Went and picked it up yesterday and gave it a clean this afternoon and started bolting it up.  Mate finally got around to ordering my new ECU, hopefully thats here this week and I can start getting that mounted and finish the wiring on it. Tomorrow I'll try and get the exhaust back in and see what else I can tick off the list
