hey all, i only need this thread to stay up until tomorrow night, basically i need to get a daily driver, preferable tomorrow, got about 14k to play with.. basic needs are, comfy, reasonably fuel efficient, low ish kms.. not attract to much attention but something that i could stil have a bit of fun in. been looking into quite a few stageas which i suppose are taking my fancy at the moment, anyone who could point out some good/bad points about them? or has any better ideas for a daily would be much appreciated.. i have the same thread up on NS but thought i mite find a few more stagea owners on here..

cheers sneddy.

They are just like a Skyline, but bigger. Tiptronic standard turbo would suit daily driving (IMO), crusing through stop/go traffic is much nicer with an auto. Fuel efficiency should be fine as long as the car is standard, the tune isnt woefully rich, and your right foot isnt too heavy.

wasn't thinking about changing the turbo... prolly just the usual cooler and zorst, bit of a tune. but yeah apart from that needs to be sensible for a daily..

Pop your head in the stagea forums mate. Not really accurate advice given here so far :-) Plus you'll responses from stag owners.

Was asking where you are located cos its easier to meet up and look inside and out of the car and talk about it...

Read this start to end Stagea buyers guide - C34

Fuel consumption is not the greatest, series 2 (98>) is improved but still nothing special. Improved with a few piggbackys or nisstune and a turbo back exhaust.

As mentioned above check under mirrors for rust as well as, spare wheel well and top of strut towers in engine bay.

My Stagea is my daily. Driven to work and back every day ... and I love it. Owned a 33 too ... but preferred the Stag. I actually bought two of them, because I liked them so much :)

Cooler, zorst and a good tune should see up to 150awkw ... enough to keep you happy and still useable as a daily. If you get tiptronic and its not done yet, get a shift kit fitted by MV Automatics, maybe have the solenoids replaced at the same time too, as they tend to go with age. As a daily auto, that'll keep you happy ... for a while.

I ended up removing the tiptronic and fitting a AWD manual. 204awkw from a manual is more fun than 150awkw from an auto :(

As Kidafa said, check out the Stagea forums, and good luck with your purchase.

:D

something fuel economical then dont bother with turbos lol......as soon as the boost bug bites mate the fuel economy will be rather quickly overlooked....IMHO get something 4cyl....there are some decent 180's, s13's and s14's going for similar price.....as long as you keep it standard you wont have a problem with the popo either

Get it tuned properly and it shouldbe fine Krishy.

I'm running 11psi and 204awkw, and a trip to VIC and back earlier this year saw me getting 512kms to the tank. :P

highway Kms are completely different to driving around the CDB or metro areas....

BUT I still got 512kms! :P Around the city I get 440-450kms, as I tend to leave early enough to avoid the peak hour traffic.

From memory, some Stagea owners are getting 460 highway and 400/410 city ... some only 350! So I'm happy with my tune. :D

i know that a good tune has part to play there ruby but just saying if your comparing highway km driving to cbd/metro driving then its like comparing apples with oranges....aint going to work....also a lot depends on highway driving.....ie constant 110kmph over certain distance to the speed fluctuating due to ascending and descending.....nature of the road surface etc etc....

also if ur left nut is bigger than the right, it will cause uneven tire wear and make u use more fuel :P

    • oh they were with that motor, you need to remove the engine to change the spark plugs (don't have to, but it does make it easier)
    • I certainly fall into the annoyed camp, but glad to hear that if it's happening at low boost then I'm not likely going to blow a turbo and end up with metal shards in my oil. Just feels like it prevents me from really driving it without hesitation and "peak" performance. Wonder if it's the VCAM, it did an impressive job of shifting the torque curve and faster spool, but maybe now it's "too fast" and there's too much air for how open the throttle is.  Based on some other threads, will also do some reading on synchronizing the actuators. They are the default actuators that come on the Garrett's and I would think they would be set the same coming from the factory, but if the turbos don't actually work exactly the same way at the same time as previously mentioned, it would be worth making sure the actuators are actuating together properly
    • I went down this rabbit hole before, ended up sourcing a motor from the UK (I'm in Japan) which also didn't function correctly. With the original motor, I disassembled it and reassembled it and it works somewhat, sometimes. What I could deduce from all my screwing around is that there is calibration of the gears on the inside of the motor and two ramps on the main gear which activate switches that operate the motor and move the sunroof either to retract into the roof or tilt. Where I got stuck was that, it seemed in my case that one or both of the switches that are activated by the ramp on the gear did not always activate and thus the motor did not move, causing it to sometimes not retract or tilt (apologies, I've forgotten which way it didn't work.).  Of course this part is discontinued at Nissan now, it's the same part in the S15 but no other models. I also contacted the manufacturer of the component for schematics - forgot the name, they're based in Gifu - but they declined to share the information due to being bound by an NDA, sadly. Looking through my pictures now, it seems I last had a crack at this in 2022. See, I so kindly wrote "open" and "close" next to the switches. If you figure it out, please do tell me. Those little switches, with the red buttons may need to be replaced.
    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
