Hi Fellas,

I've decided to get wide body rear guards to be able to get thicker wheels on the rear.

I have an R33 GTS-T with 380 rwkw (alot of traction issues), hence, why I am intending to put 10 inch rims on the car with some 275 rubber.

Now, I have two decisions as I see it. The rims I want for the rear come in either 18 x 10 +22 offset, or 18 x 10 -1 offset.

Would the 18 x 10 -1 offset look too extreme? Would such wheels fit on a standard GTR on the rear?

How much would the standard rear guards need to be pumped out on a GTS-T to accomodate for these wheels and tyres?

Bear in mind I would like the tyre under the guard and I am intending to put 275/35 18 tyres on the rear.

Any advice, opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

Cheers

Your +22s would easily fit in gtr guards will no mods, in fact might even be too high and offset for a 10" rim. The -1s would look sweet as put you would probably need some serious guard work to get under gtst guards. Do it through.

18x10-1 with 275's will not fit under stock metal without a LOT of flare unless you wanna run your car like a 4wd

as I recall you don't have a diff do you? The money would be better spent on a 1.5 way diff so that you are actually putting down all that power... On a stock diff that hasn't been recently reshimmed you will be trying to put down 380 rwkw through 1 wheel and that's never ever gonna happen

what's the rest of your suspension like? What Tyres do you run?

For example, with my setup federal 595s start to fail in 2nd gear WOT at around 270rwkw

when I run any more power they will simply not hook up, however my nitto NT05'a will hold all of second with 325rwkw and could take a lil more if I had it

u dont need wide body to fit 18X10-1's bro

lil lip and roll and thy will fit fine.

dont waste ur money on wide body or gtr guards unless ur going way wider thn that with way more dish.

regards

julz

Serious? I got 18 x9 + 37 on my rear now with 265 tyres and I got about 1 cm gap to the guard. And that's with slot of negative camber ...

the general concensus of buying rims in my circle of friends (we all have silvias, 180s, skylines and chasers) is to go out and buy the most extreme rim u can afford and make the c@nt fit bro.

my car is about to get its second paint job to accomodate the rims im buying very shortly (hopefully tonight when the dude who bought my brides pays me :miner:)

....am i the only one who notices here that OP was asking whther or not to sell his car and after 8 or so pages of lengthy discussion he decided to sell his R33 and get a WRX after taking one for a test drive??

op - you don't need wheels to fit wide body. you need to find God. haha

furthermore...

your proposed wheel fitment probably won't require widebody. look up www.rimtuck.com for ideas of sizes and fitment.

to clarify - OP - i really hate you because you keep asking questions and i keep helping you out.

your proposed fitment is posted in this link ... 18x10 +22. keep in mind that's an R32 with smaller guards than your 33... so the proposed fitment will fit fine

again in this link

you'll find R33 GTST with 18 x 10 +22 running a 245/40 tyre. he's not running widebody or lippage.

another pic here to see the real fitment. keep in mind he's running an 18 x10 +22 on FRONT also.

no widebody. no guards lipped

so not only will you now see that not only do you not need to lip, or to widebody... you will also see your wheel choice is infact quite conservative..

one more thing. i don't REALLY hate you. but it's quite annoying that i can't help but get baited into writing essay posts only to see that my heart felt advice is just water off a ducks back to you haha :miner:

edit - see? as i said. i can't help but get baited into helping you out. lol

okay you want a 10 inch rim onto a 275 tyre...

275 = two hundred and seventy five millimetres wide...

onto a 10 inch rim. - i'm assuming you already know this... and i needn't explain it to you

but

275mm = 11 inches. the tyre will be too wide for the rim of the wheel. and if you put this 11inch wide tyre onto a 10 inch rim.. then put the setup on your car. ninjas will come out and kill you, and kill your family, and kill everyone you like...

that's a fate worse than death my friend...

no seriously it won't cause any issues... but it will look a bit retarded, esp in a 35 profile, and thinking about it - it probably would cause your guards to rub

my advice... change guards and widebodies to fit a WHEEL fair enough... but for a consumable like tyres? nah. that is wack...

you should get the same amount of grip /traction running say a 255 or 265 provided you get a higher end tyre... rather than getting a 275 just for the sake of having a 275

NERRRRRR i already TOLD him that!!! DUH!!!

SEEEEE????

:)

Lets start taking wagers on what the next thread he puts up will be about because I am having a hard time following his descisions. So we obviously aint selling the car any more?

Yes, my car puts me through many hard descisions, which results in many conflicting posts. The reason why I've decided to keep it is because I realised ill never get close to getting even half of what I paid for it. So I may as well keep it and enjoy it :P.

so what's the sussy setup?

I have beilstien shocks all round. K-mac lowered springs (progressive, so they aren't too hard, but not too soft, feel real nice)

Tyres I am using currently on a 18 x 9 +37 wheel is a Khumo KU36 (I think). Tyre is 265/35 18.

The other reason why I am having traction issues is because I got a SH!T load of negative camber.

When I touch the rear tyres after driving, the inside is hot, the outside is cold.

I've purchased a camber kit to add up to 0.75 degrees positive camber, but I cannot fit it because the tyres are already so close to the guard, there is no room for positive cambre adjustment.

Hence my reason for thinking, make my wide body with 275 semi slick tyres (Somewhere around the $700 pair range like faken RT615s) on a 10 inch rim, I can get two camber kits and have adjustment up to 1.5 degrees on either side.

I do have another option as you said above, getting a 1.5 diff.

But then again, I'd have to get smaller tyres (probably 245s) get my camber kit installed, get the diff installed, and hope for the best my 380kw still don't spin the rears......

Not to familiar with diff work, but off the top of your head, how much would it be to get a 1.5 diff supplied ad fitted?

Thanks for your help.

EPS, my man!

Not sure if you've noticed, but I am having TRACTION ISSUES (in addition with some personal issues), hence why I wanted to get a wide body, with wider rims, wider tyres and more positive camber.

Puting links up on my post of cars with 10" rims and 245 tyres that look like 4wds isn't going to solve my traction issues.

Yes, the r32 in the first link looks nice with the rims, but the 235 stretched tyres on a 10 inch rim, are they really going to help me with my traction issues? Probably not....

As I wrote before, I have 18x9 +37 rims on the rear now, with 265 Khumo KU36 tyres, and it spins all over the place because of alot of negative cambre (and probably not the best suspension work.

However, I don't have room for more positive cambre, why you ask? because the tyre is so close to the guard already. so Imagine a 10 in rim, with -1 offset, it'll bring the wheel out a further 5.1cm.

So Mr EPS, What do you suggest, I suggest you quit hating, and start participating.

And your advice isn't water off a ducks back, I enjoy reading your input. :D

are your guards lipped?

if not then there's an easy fix... if they have been, then pump them a lil more.

i'm running 18x9.5+25 all round and have the rear guards pumped enough without "flaring" to accomodate 245's and near flat camber on WOT

as seen here

med_gallery_36777_3194_1082837.jpg

you are currently running kuhmo ku36's, so tyre choice is decent :P for now get them swapped onto the opposite rims to wear down the opposing sides

a 1.5 way diff will set you back around 2k. look at the nismo gt lsd pro diffs, as they are the quietest, especially the TT model (hell i drove my 83 year old grandmother around the other day with it)

when i pin the car it hooks up 100% of the time and has been possibly the best mod i have ever done. the car is a different animal to drive and is a million times more fun as it is totally predictable.

with a 1.5 way you dont get compression lock ~> death in the twisties either.

personally i would run a welded diff before i run a stocker, but this is not for everyone... however i run one in my ksev, and i love it... and i hae no idea how you'd go with 380rwkw and a weldy... the most i've driven with one is 260rwkw

you could also look into adding more shims to your current diff to test the waters if you are confident with DIYing it (kinda pointless to pay somone for labour, as you will love it and buy a diff soon anyway)

swaybars are also worth a mention... @ 3-400 they are definitely the best bank for buck mod you can do

my advice is to keep your current rims, get a diff of some sort, get swaybars, install your camber kits and see how you go.

i guarantee you will start to love driving your car again and it will make all the other money you have spent feel like it was worth it

you could also go to a meet and have rides in people's cars with diff's to see the difference ;)

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
