heyy guyss just going on to my green p's and always been a skyline fanatic always loved r32 GTR's

just curious i was looking into buying a r33 N/a. never driven one before but what car could you compare it to with speed i have driven autech silvia, supra n/a , integra type r how would an n/a r33 do against these? ive been convinced that they are really slow? also is it worth spending that lil bit extra and buying the car from an importer to have the warranty and are those kms legit? any specific way you can tell if they are or arnt?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome!!

Stock N/A Skylines are slow, everyone knows that... Maybe with some money put into it you might get some more power out of it, but thats after droping alot of money and really not much bang in my opinion... Ive got a stock tip-tronic R34, which makes it even slower, beleive me... :D

Importers can be a bit more expensive, but usually come with RWC, 12month rego and warranty so it really depends...

Well its hard to tell if the kms are legit or not, have a drive and see how it feels. And get someone to check it like RACV, you might pay a bit for it but at least you will know what your buying.

Just remember when you buy a skyline on p's, save an extra 1/2grand for insurance...

Hey i got an N/A r33, on learners and i can tell you that my brother's BA XR6 Falcon is quite a bit faster and its auto/tiptronic. They're fairly quick i guess but they handle well(i would rape my brother round corners and he says it too) Its fast enough as a first car but if u wanna save and wait like another year or 2 and get an r32 thats probs a good idea too.

If u got any questions u can always pm me.

as for what type of car to compare it to for speed, they are about as fast as a commodore or falcon. if it's an auto skyline then a bit slower.

Really mate? I have been lead to believe that a falcon or commodore would be a lot quicker off the line and to a certain speed due to the torque of the larger engines? If this isn't true then it's kind of refreshing to hear.

Anyone got specs or a decent amount of knowledge to give a run down on how a nice 34 GT goes?

hey, i've recently purchased an r32 rb20de. i was with my friends r33 rb25 n/a... auto, i bet that. but compared to an n/a supra it doesnt really have a chance. on a rolling start i keep up with them till about 2nd. but when the supra hits about 5 grand rpm it has a butterfly valve or something? and just pulls like crazy

depends on whether you are talking about an auto or manual commodore/falcon. i just compare them to the autos because 90% of them on the road at auto. a manual commodore or falcon will be quicker (and a manual 3.5L magna will be even quicker again, depending on what model falcon or commodore you are talking about). another comparison, the missus SSS pulsar with full exhaust will beat auto commodores and is noticably quicker than an auto 33. .

I raced an Integra type R in my R34, 0-180 km/h and i won by about one & half car lengths lol, i got the lead off the line (even with wheel spin) and kept it up until 180 km/h, it was funny because you could actually see the v-tec kicking in on the honda as he would catch up a few meters every now and again and then fall back an equal distance when v-tec went off haha... good old consistent Rb25 power.

but then again when i raced an accord from a 50km/h - 90 that was pretty even, probably slightly slower than it maybe

I was talking about auto commodores/falcons mate. So a manual 34 GT v an auto AU falcon, if the manual driver knew how to shift properly, the GT would keep pace? Yes is the answer I want to hear, but I am skeptical lol. Thanks for your advice. Ever take your cars out to hervey siding for a spirited drive?

I was only in a mates r34 25gt tip a week ago and i honestly thought it went ok.. It had good oomph off the mark being 0-60km/h and 2nd gear was ok upto 80 or so then it started losing some steam. Put it this way, i was genuinely suprised after hearing/reading so many naysayers bag out the n/a's.

N/a supra's are pretty quick, torquey 3L engine. Beat my then fto with 116fwkw @ 1140kg. Supra just had intake and exhaust. Both of these cars were under 7seconds to 100km/h. I completely lost him in corners though haha.

And for you guys saying it handles better blah blah =/ Any half setup lightweight FF car will lose your r3-2/3/4 in touge and you have diddly squat chance mod for handling mod.

welcome mate

an na r33 is going to struggle against all those i'm afraid, esp the supra. i have a mate making 160rwkw in his na supra, it's a machine, that's more than a gtt with exhaust (well with the better of them), that was a while ago and he's been modding a fair bit.

pretty much, don't get your hopes up going against big torquey falcodores, you'll probably need a bit of talent to beat them. i remember i used to work for a guy who's shitty old mid 90s commadore smashed is brothers manual stock na supra over the quarter mile, every time lol

on the kms, i read somewhere before i bought my gtt that something like 60 000km's were wound back on someone's prior to importing, so the odometer isn't much to go by.

mad referred to a magna before, not sure if that's the awd one but i've heard good things about awd and a bit of oomf. there's a host of cars that are possibly more suitable if you want speed and cheapness, and it's been covered many times.

but if it were me and i wanted something now, i'd go supra and then let it breathe really well, otherwise get something to pass you by till you can buy godzilla

why is everyone so concerned with having a pissing contest in which car is quicker in a straight line!?!

Buy the car you like.. and enjoy it because you like it.. not because its the fastest.. there will ALWAYS be someone faster.

Ditto.

My advice is buy a RWD manual car with some guts you like, and learn to drive it. Get out to track days, motorkhanas, etc. I'm by no means a skilled driver, but I've easily thumped much, much more powerful cars due to their lack of driving ability. Half of them spent bucket loads on the engine, and knew how to stomp the throttle, but when it came to braking and cornering all that power was actually more of a hinderance than help as they had no idea how to control it.

the awd's are good off the line, but a bit heavier than the fwd ones so are a bit slower up top. i have owned 2 manual 3.5L v6 magnas and they were both good cars. the first made 170hp with exhaust and extractors. the second never went on a dyno, but ran a 14.8 at willowbank with just a cat back exhaust. neither were the vrx models which have about 15kw more and they will run mid 14's, despite being hard to get off the line due to having plenty of torque. the autos are a bit of a slug though (run mid to high 15's), especially the 4 speed ones, as the gear ratios are stupidly tall. they will cross the line still in second gear (get about 155kmh out of second)

i do agree that speeds is certainly not everything, but the thread is about na speed.

absolutely, buy a car you'll enjoy, but part of that enjoyment (for some people) might be taken away in a run against an xr6 at the lights. it is a pissing contest, but some people take it very seriously

The manual R34's are a lot better :)

As for handling mentioned a few posts ago, I've raced a few of my mates on mountain roads etc.. going downhill my mates NA mr2 (with coil overs etc) would smoke me but going uphill I'd totally smoke him as my car handles like shit going downhill on tight corners, uphill is a different story tho

    • Hello, sorry for being late to join the discussion, but my clock just died on me.   Ive tried to look at Michaels digital clock repair.docx and it doesnt work maybe the file has expired.   Please let me know if you can re upload it or take some youtube videos to show us how to get the clock installed? thanks
    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. Rb25det s1 walbro255 fuel pump nismo fpr holset hx35 turbo fmic 3" exhaust freddy intake manifold q45tb q45 maf   Re: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Fri Apr 12, 2013 5:07 am No, I didn't. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
