Ok folks, I have an r33 gts-t.

Current exhaust mods are:

- Bellmouth 3inch dump/front pipe

- Xforce 3 inch cat (apparently, came with car)

- 3 inch stainless mandral bent system which also came with car. (it is jasma approved, so its quiet, one huge muffler at the rear that goes 3inch in then splits into two pipes inside and then back out with a single 3inch again, middle muffler is same brand but smaller about the size of a shoe box)

the mufflers appear so say K&H on them, never heard of them?

The car flows great, good performance, cant complain but its too quiet!

It literally makes almost no noise. It is completely drained out by the induction noise.

RB25s have a good note and I would like to get some of that without being too loud and offensive obviously.

Recommendations for a good sensible note? remove rear muffler for a cannon? different rear muffler, no rear muffler etc?

thanks

i would but its all welded, beautiful system. It was a novelty to have it that quiet but truly it makes no noise, no different to stock system. I was thinking have the rear muffler changed to the flange (half way between middle and rear muffler) so I can change back if needed?

Not looking for police attention just a nice, crisp but still reasonably quiet exhaust note

i have a jasma fujutsubu canon and just a hotdog in my 3.5inch system, and its as loud as it can get before going over the allowed db, im getting a 3 inch bellmouth and highflow cat (i have stock dump/front and cat) so it will louden it up a bit! cos im after a bit more noise to, so to answer your question, since u have a similar system to mine, i think taking out the center muffler and get a hotdog (if you dont already have one) should make it sound nice.

Just get the centre muffler cut out and a straight piece welded in.

Ok sounds good. Would be cheapish too. What about this rear muffler, would it be restrictive? the 3inch in 3inch out but with the twin pipes running through it? its a huge muffler. ill try get a pic. doing the centre would be cheaper than the rear (less bends) Also I could keep my current tip which I dont mind

check out my for sale thread (in sig) for my old exhaust. unique and mildly sounding. :D enough of the sales pitch.

i got a custom 3 inch made up with a straight through muffler and thats it. same sort of sound from my old one just deeper and louder. when it opens up ~4500+ it really starts to roar. i frukin love it... my petrol seems to be draining somewhere.... ;)

run a decat, will be slightly louder and slightly faster, best of both worlds!

pros.

more power

more response

louder

their cheap, sell ur current high flow cat and ur infront!

ur system sounds like a quality system, this way u dont have to modify it and f**k with anything

cons.

the environment (f**k the environment)

has anyone got a 3 inch system with a high flow cat and only one big muffler, what did you think if so?

3 inch dump pipe high flow cat and lukey turbo muffler 3in 3 out. no police attention but loud enough and seems to flow enough

CONS! the $$$$$$$$$$ Worth of Ass Raping you will receive if you get caught.

yeah wont be getting a de-cat.

I wonder if just removing the centre muffler and replacing with a straight pipe would sound good? The rear muffler looks quite big and has a twin chamber type design. K&H brand. Might be a good way to go, wont cost much either i figure. thoughts?

IMO then you are very silly to change it.

If it's quiet now, then its probably only just legal.

Changing it wil mean you are then over the dB limit almost certainly - I'm yet to see a single muffler system pass.

So you'll end up having to change back for EPA defect reasons anyway.

Stealth & silent is the new black in Vic, it's sadly the only way you can enjoy a Import with relatively low hassle.

Having it loud just simply is not worth the heartache, anyone who's battled the EPA for years (like myself), would most likely agree.

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
