my dash trimming has stated to peel off like around the lighter socket and where the stereo and din spacer is. its really nice and gloss black plastic underneath. want that whole effect. i think it would look cool in the end. have tries rubbing more off but its gna cause lots of blisters. lol i dont want to paint over it because i think it looks cheap, is there any otherway of removing this stuff. thanks

Been here and done this several times.

Sadly that sweet glossy black plastic that is underneath really only shows up like that on the bits where the trimming has degraded n fallen off naturally. Otherwise when you start rubbing the rest off it has a different look and isnt consistent. I had the same thought as you...

As such eventually you will need to spray it to get it to look schmick again.

I found mine (1993) was able to be rubbed off by hand but as you said ends up caning your hand. I used those extra thick heavy duty dishwashing gloves and it worked a treat.

If the trim is a bit stubborn use hot water on it at the same time. Or even eucalyptus oil. Otherwise if too stubborn just get something plastic that is hard enough to use as a scraped but not hard enough to damage the plastic underneath.

N dont try to do this job with the dash panels still in the car, not worth the trouble. U pulled the dash panels off before?

N when you do go to respray it make sure you use a good primer n even plastic primer as paint does not like to stick to that bare plastic.

acetone diluted or kero works pretty well but dont leave it long or it will etch the plastic

i used a fine sanding block on mine cause i planned on spraying and a little roughing helps the paint take

and respray is your best bet for a nice finish easy as to do yourself get a good plastic primer and spraypack of your choice ( most good paint shops will make up a pressure pack of any colour you want) then make sure its warm and theres not to much moisture in the air and go nuts

practice on a icecream container or similar if your worried about finish

thanks boys,, ill give all those ago and post pics when finished, do i really have to respray everything underneath which i dont mind doing or can i keep it super gglossy.. and yes i ahve pulled it all apart before not a problem. thanks for the ideas

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.   
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.

    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
