Okay so i dug up a three year old thread about glass for the A31 cefiro here in perth, and everyone hailed instant windscreens as the champion in this area

instant windscreens gave me a quote for $320 supply + fit, of $340 supply + fit + call out.

YOU LITTLE RIPPER (i thought)

that was discussed and planned a week ago - to be installed tomorrow - as they had 5 in stock

just then i get a ph call saying they have ZERO in stock, and can possibly organise more to be made but it'll take a while.

i'm a bit pissed - naturally.

so i called windscreens o'brien.

windscreens o brien are set up ready to go with glass in stock. supply. fit. free call out. lifetime warranty on workmanship.

for the low low price of $590.

(naturally even THIS is too rich for my blood - as benevolent as i am with my car - i just cant justify a nearly $300 jump for the same product)

i have called wayne's windscreen's in welshpool (try saying that four timeS)

and the lovely girl there is in the process of getting back to me about this - as they MAY have some in stock.

can anybody else suggest something???

keep in mind

tried:

instant windscreens

windscreens obrien

wayne's windscreens.

whichever business gives best service and least stuffing around - wins my business.

PS: i had a chat to the guy in instant windscreens warehouse and told him there's a few of us around and it'd be in his interest to press some up (think of it as a group buy)

so any numbers?

update

instant windscreens have got back to me, there is 0 stock in WA.

however there are 3 stock items over east which can be delivered to WA and fit to my car

...for $690

instant windscreens. $690.

windscreens obrien. $590.

wayne's windscreens better pull through or i'm gonna be a very sad panda.

Try O'Briens again...theyre actually $350 fitted, Jason tried twice, he had the same deal as you.

$590 first time, rang back, asked someone else, $350 fitted. And they always keep on in stock in WA at any one time.

Go with Wayne's Windshields if possible...blondie at reception is quiet nice indeed. Work on the opposite side of the intersection to them and have used them a few times with company vehicles.

weird i thought i already replied to this..

yeahhhh i think i'll be sticking with waynes windscreens for now - the receptionist there was a great help once when i was DEPERATELY trying to find a place i was sent out to work... very nice girl to deal with.

(greatrack)

(kidding)

but seriously i'll stick with them before bothering obriens again, they have (yet) to so far stuff me around!

okay so another update - so far it looks like i'm getting the glass supplied by obreins for $220

and getting it fitted else where.

obrien quote 590 for supplied fitted callout. not negotiable not haggle.

but they'll supply the glass for $220.

soooooooooo that means $370 for an hours labour

fuuuuuckkkk that???

so looks like i'll be trying wayne's windscreens.

the weird thing is - as much as this sounds like heaps of fun

this is ACTUALLY a massive pain in the ass

or eat a dick.

they will not repeat WILL NOT BUDGE on my $590 quote.

the best they can do is supply for $220. and then the best quote i can get is a $170 FIT from instant windscreens,

wayne's are quoting $220 fitment =|

mind you - while i'm being REAMED for quotes by these guys who are simply too stubborn to compromise for me... here's the funny part

IM DOING HALF THEIR FKN JOB FOR THEM. THEY AREN'T THE ONES WHO'VE HAD TO SOURCE THE FKN PART. THEY AREN'T NEEDING A CALL OUT. THEY AREN'T NEEDING TO ORGANISE FREIGHT. IM FKN DOING THAT SHIT FOR THEM. YET THEY STILL THINK GLUE AND AN HOURS LABOUR IS WORTH $220 WTF!!!!

what are novus windscreens callout fee? i don't see how it costs that much either for the glue and shit. NIC A31: my price was for a 4 door 32, tinted with the aerial inside the glass annnndddd freighted from melbourne.

are there any mobile peoples in the yellow pages that can install it??

hah! try finding a laurel windscreen , you DON'T wanna know what i paid for mine!!!!!!

Do tell, I have to buy 2 for both of myne. Dont worry the misso has a difibrilator on hand in case a have a coronary haha.

dori_fc please just tell me!

    • The question then becomes - was there any fluid coming from that hole before you did the rebuild ?    You may not have noticed, of course.   Depending on how you did the rebuild, the possibility has to be considered that somehow (cleaning ?)  fluid entered that hole and is now being 'forced'  out by small movements of the proportioning valve.   From the factory, there's actually a small rubber plug in that hole but with age and under-bonnet heat it's quite common for it to 'go missing'.  That rubber plug is designed to allow the venting process but also to prevent 'stuff' getting to the area (prevent corrosion, etc).   The plug is also not available as a spare part AFAIA. Personally I wouldn't race and buy a new master just yet but keep an eye on the area to see if the 'leak' continues.   If you're concerned about brake fluid damaging nearby paintwork, cable tie a piece of suitable absorbant material over the hole and remove/monitor occasionally.    Operation of the proportioning valve and the brake master itself won't be affected, but also keep an eye on brake fluid level, of course. In terms of a new master, the genuine part is getting expensive, unfortunately.  Amayama is showing AUD900+.   I was searching recently and there's an aftermarket part available from Japan made by 'Parts Assist': https://zenmarket.jp/en/yahoo.aspx?q=BNR32%2bBM50&p=1 Whether it's any good I have no idea, although in my experience Japanese aftermarket stuff is pretty good quality-wise.   The above site allows overseas buyers to purchase stuff more easily from Japan but there are fees and shipping costs, of course.   The original Japanese seller page is here: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/p1197401228 Copper/Nickel is fine but I still prefer bundy tube and it's also cheaper.
