Hi im a newbie, im looking to get some coilovers and wondering what people think of the tein super streets?

My car is a daily, but im still looking for the best performance possible whilst staying within a reasonable budget. also, does anyone know how much these coils can be lowered? not looking to absolutely slam but def needs to go lower.

cheers

A couple of my mates have the super streets in their cars and as far as comfort goes they give you quite a reasonable ride...as for performance im not 100% sure how effective they are but i'd say pretty good from the couple of times ive driven their cars.

I've got them in my car and for a street driven car they are awesome. I've got the aus spec ones so the spring rate is a little softer than the jap ones but the comfort is really good and firm. Best modification I have done by far.

And yes you can lower them a lot, my rears tyres are sitting on the guard and there is probably about another 20mm of adjustment in there

Get the Jap specs...can't tell much difference between Aus and Jap, it's negligible. Jap are cheaper...

Good coilovers they handle quite well when set to firm. Street ride is decent on most roads, only on cracked or tram tracked roads will it feel uncomfortable. They will also make you notice any creaks you have in the rest of your suspension/chassis. Alas a hundred opinions have been posted around these forums, search function is your friend.

+1. All that crap about being softer than Jap might be true but its negligible for the 1k saving. The Jap spec SS are even softer than my stock v-spec suspension when they're set to 1/2 the damper setting.

Not too sure about the 1k price difference, maybe $300? Maybe you are comparing Jap ones without the pillow tops to the Aus ones with the tops and yes the spring rate difference is neglible.

Fulcrum quoted around 2.3k for them and I got them straight from Japan for 1450 delivery. And yes they have pillow top, full Super Street Kit.

I am getting mine from a local supplier for under 2k but even on nengun its just over 2k delivered. Plus you get warranties when purchased and installed locally.

Where are you getting that 1450 delivered price from?

Through a mate that import straight from Japan's distributor (all prices quote are in YEN). You're simple ditching a bigger middleman (e.g. RHD, Nengun etc, maybe paying 30-50% mark up?) and paying a smaller middleman going my way (maybe 10-20% markup?).

If you're overly concern about warranty, just get them locally. Just gotta manage your risk and if you think its not worth it, pay that extra and get them locally. Obivously I think otherwise.

hey guys, the original poster is my brother. thanks for all the input, been really helpful. however we've decided to go either greddy type s or silkroad rm8's for my bro's r33. the reason is, we think the ss wont go as low as we want, but also ive had the greddys in my previous s15 and currently got the silkroads in my s13. around 1650del for either one.

anyway for those interested in the tein ss, i got quoted 2500 from a local fulcrum supplier (umm, no!) and about 1950 from cj motors in brisbane.

im assuming Brandon you used streeter? i use him for everything too mate, cant go wrong.

Not sure how low you want to go :P I have them in my car and the car is pretty low and could go lower. The Greddy Type S are good aswell though.

Also for a R33 the Jap Spec and Aus Spec Superstreets have the same springs rates, 4kg. It's the valving which is slightly different.

Here's a thread about them.

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
