zebra
Hey guys, I'm about to start looking into making a single turbo low mount manifold for my 1jz, not really sure if I will actually use it on the car or not, but i wanna do it for a little project. So I have a few questions I dont want to use a merge collector due to space constraints, and I want it to look standardish, so thinking a log style manifold would meet the criteria. So how do I get the runners to connect to the turbo flange (traditional Single entry T3) Im thinking 2 90deg bends and cut and weld them together and then squish them into the squareish T3 entry shape. Any hints/tips/pointers/flaws in my plan? Cheers Andrew Edit - here is a Tomei manifold for a late model VVTi 1jz and is kinda what im after but maybe not as fancy and in mild steel Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/ Share on other sites
zebra
Oh and my 1jz is non VVTi so I cant just grab an off the shelf low mount manifold Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5414221 Share on other sites
VB-
what sort of power are you chasing? a basic log style manifold made from steam pipe will go alot further than most people think (my opinion anyway) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5422078 Share on other sites
Craved
whats different with the non vvti? bolt pattern? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5422236 Share on other sites
Bliksem
Log Style manifolds are fairly straight forward for RB's, basically all standard off the shelf steam pipe bends and tees seem to match up perfectly. Heres a pic, granted its a Rb30 head... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5422609 Share on other sites
r33_racer
As tidy as the manifold in that picture looks. I can only imagine the flow inside would be shocking. Gases running into more gases. I wouldnt have used the tee's for the outlets. Rather 90's being merged into the back corner of the next one along. But for a simple easy to fabricate manifold that looks like the way to go! You could pump that out in one afternoon/night. So all you need is 4 x buttweld fitting tee's and two buttweld fitting 90's probs long radius, and what looks like a piece of RHS to suit the internal dimensions of the T3 flange and then maybe another 90 for external wastegate outlet if you go that route. Id imagine all the buttweld fittings would be 1 1/4". That log style manifold would be pretty damn cheap too. Maybe $100 to $130 worth of material... Bliksem
Yep, I agree with everything there, I just pinched that pic off another forum as an example, its certainly nothing to be compared to a 6boost etc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5429161 Share on other sites
PIG_31
you could have a go, it wont hurt and you will only get better the next one you make! zebra
I forgot about this thread, only looking for aboot 260rwks outta the 1jz Also now looking at using a td06 so circular flange. That is if I cant find a suitable manifold cheap off the shelf. But I do like the idea of not having a stupid high mount manifold, stealth ftw lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5482664 Share on other sites
VB-
have you got the turbo and all that already? i've got a mate who's half half on selling his turbo kit atm, its on a jzz30. td06 25g with small as shit rear housing, with gate, manifold, dump pipe lines etc. made 275rwkw @19psi. zebra
This would be the one Trent was telling me about, Id be keen depending on price. VB-
yeah we were playing with it on the dyno the other day, trying to get lpg tune and shit sorted. i think hes keeping his setup now though, trent helped him decide to stick with it lol. i'll still ask anyway for you. had another guy lined up to buy it but pulled out at the last minute to hiflow his standards, he was paying 2750 for it, so thats where the price would be at i'll let you know if he changes his mind and wants to sell it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5487996 Share on other sites
samuri
yeah we were playing with it on the dyno the other day, trying to get lpg tune and shit sorted. i think hes keeping his setup now though, trent helped him decide to stick with it lol. Sorry to hijack the thread. If a great tune is performed on a N/A Skyline so torque and power are improved 10%, will the SVI LPG ECU ( hope the terminology is correct) adapt itself to the improved petrol performance. My Current LPG set up returns poor fuel economy so it will need to be fine tuned by the LPG technician. How then would a future great petrol tune affect a prior newly fine tuned LPG setup? VB-
i take it english is not your first language? i think what your asking is if you get it tuned on petrol, will the gas tune improve in the same way the petrol does? most likely yes, but on an NA skyline, you probably wont see massive gains anywhere, fuel economy may pics up somewhat though. how bad is the fuel economoy? within 30% of petrol? VB-
haha sorry zebra samuri, your english is alright, may have been pissed/tired/both when i read your post, makes sense reading it now not up with the various types of LPG injection systems, but most dont have much of an 'ECU' as such, they are basically a complicated switch, with a mechanical restrictor of some sort to choke down the injector till it flows the same as your petrol injectors. sounds like the lpg tech may have left it a little rich.... if you tune the petrol though, it should improve the gas tune *assuming your system works the same way as most others* Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/334094-making-traditional-turbo-manifolds/#findComment-5509351 Share on other sites
