Well hope someone can help with info or advice.

I bought my GTR R32 1989 model, 5 and a bit years ago. From stik performance a used car lot, with warranty and everything. But they are now out of business, and the owner may have a checked past.

I cant ever remember seeing a vin plate or compliance plate on the car but never really looked for it. But it has had rego for the last 5 years and the vin number on the rego label is correct with the cars chassis number. So i never had any questions about it. Also ive been pulled over by the cops a large number of times and never been questioned about it. Even petit has seen the under side of my bonnet a few times. Also the car has had a respray at some stage and the plates may have gone missing then.

So,

I was heading to auto salon on sunday and got pulled into a side street by mr pod.

They went over my car. The only thing they picked was the car had no vin plate or compliance plate on it, so they issued me a defect notice and said, present the car in 7 days to vic roads with a vin plate and compliance plate fitted and you will be right.

Today i rang vicroads and they said the car needs a vass or some shit done and a engineers and other stuff done.

Well my question is if they gave the car rego years ago shouldnt they have the info on record and just be able to reprint off some plates that i can fit to my car? After they check the engine, chassis numbers of course. Or what else can i do?

Any help or usefull info or advice would be greatly apperated.

Thank you.

an 89 model will most possibly be one of the cheapies that came in under the 15 year rule back when there was a loophole in the system. There's no need to put a compliance plate on it, however the australian VIN number needs to be stamped on the chassis of the car. Sometimes they stamp it around the front strut tower, which may then get covered up by a crossbar etc.

If its not there, it's not that big a deal. Find the VASS that signed off your car, take it back to them and get them to stamp it. You should have all the paperwork (or the original importer should anyway).

Worst case scenario I'd challenge the defect and point out that a car that was imported under the 15 year rule prior to 2007 did not need a compliance plate fitted, just a engineer's cert from a VASS. That is if ALL that you were defected for was not having a compliance plate and not any other illegal mods etc.

There is only the jap chassis number stamped on the car, nothing else. The vin number on the rego has more numbers and letters infront of it, i got told it means the car was imported and complied.

With the original engineer or compliancer of the car i cant find that info out as the dealer is not in business anymore. He had his licence revoked throught dodge sales.

Yep, +1

My car doesnt have a compliance plate at all :P

Sounds like the cop was full of shit.

I bet VicRoads have the old VASS on file, if so get a copy from them and challenge the defect. Take the officer to court and make him understand he needs to educate himself.

I've had to deal with that kinda thing many times (uneducated officers quoting law they dont understand)

I still need the vin plate tho. Think that might be a f**k around

Hey guys,

Just letting you know, car was past on defect today after half an hour phone call to vicroads, 1 trip to vicroads, call to police officer who was a f**king arrogant flamin mongrel who knew shit about road laws( wont name him), and another 2 hours at vicroads. But was informed by vicroads that defect was cleared but the officer was now going to put my car in for a EPA, cause i made him look like a dickhead. Should be able to sue for harrasement but who polices the police? Let sleeping dogs lie i spose. Just wrapped its all over.

Also got writen conformation for the the next time it happens from vicroads so dont have to do this again. :P

No point suing, but a formal complaint, along with a letter from vicroads (type it up and get em to sign) indicating the hours wasted following his error should be enough. its what you'd do if anyone else in any other profession were in the wrong, but persisted when their error is pointed out.

At the very least his superior might ask him to be better versed in the state and federal ADR's and ISO's, which will reduce the ignorance.

So, is this copper one of those 'Reprisal' types?

...funny, 'reprisal' sounds so much better than 'vengeance'

publicise the cop

not on this forum

though somewhere you can

name and shame this piggy

no, that's just sinking to his level. follow the legal channels if you want something done (formal complaint on conduct), or just start believing in karma and let it go.

Hi all , I had 2 Victorian police officers / cops ,pull me over 4 years ago. I own a R32 GTR with only the import plate on the firewall ! they drew the guns and pointed them at me , 1 at my window ,1 at the back of the car. i was man handeld and some how tripped over and hit the side of there car with my head ! they both through me into there car numerious times there was 2.2k worth of damage done to there car. All because i denide doing 94 in a 60 zone. I was sprayed with 2 cans of pepper spray , had a broken eye socket ,burn mark on my back from when i was thrown into their pursuit rim ,they must of been riding the brakes or something because i never knew rims could get that hot ! permanent lose of feeling in my left thumb because of one of them stomping on my wrists whilist i was face down on the ground handcuffed ! and the list goes on an on an on ! It was a big stuff around but i was interviewd by the police commistioner of victoria ( at home ) due to me going all the way with the complaints/evidence i had against the officers. As the story goes, It ended in district court their was a trail, the 2 cops were found guilty of serious assault, 1 of them was suspended from the force the other got 2 years disipline reaction. i sued the 2 cops and the police force for loss of work ,stress and injurys ! I ended up with a pritty fair amount of compensation. And yes i wasnt smart to them and i didnt resist arrest ! no convictions were recorded on my record ... Sorry this story was abit of subject

If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
