I previously posted in the Vic forums but got no where so i thought i would (should of originally) post it in here.

Guys ,

I had a situation where i left a door ajar overnight and well you guessed it my battery was dead. My question to everyone (and i know its dumb) is actually 2 fold.

Where do you go to both jump start & charge your battery for your car.

Its either at the battery &/or at the fuse box.....

The reason i asked was that i tried to charge the battery in situ via the fuse box under the bonnet but the meter on the charger went ape and peaked at 8 amps then reset back to 0 and then again to 8 amps. Which actually scared the crap outa me as i couldnt get the connectors off fast enough... BUT when i connect it to the battery it goes to 2-3 amps as per all my old NA cars of old...

I did jump start it as the car was in the garage head first so i opened up the boot and did it that way. I am sure you can do the same from where the fuse box is as well but actually can you CHARGE from the fuse box area is really my question as I should of stated firstly...

Now this question on behalf of all the dumbasses out there that were too scared to ask (me included)

yes you can charge from there. when jump starting and charging you should put the negative to part of the engine to give the starter a better chance and because it usually well connected to the battery. sounds like the terminals of the charger were shorting out or trying to run something else whilst charging. i cant imagine what else. try it again and check before switching it on connections are good and cant short out

charge at the battery. jump start at the battery too. in the past i've tried jump starting at the fuse box and it would barely turn over. moved around to jump start at the battery and started fine.

also when charging you should have the battery disconnected from the car, otherwise you can risk blowing stuff if there is a surge.

Cheers guys.

yes i know to use the engine or component for the -ve and disconnect the battery while chargeing I just thought it odd that the charger peaked at 8 amps at the fuse box yet straight after (2 mins) when connected to the battery it draws 2-3 amps.

I suspect this is due to the battery location in the boot . I mean the battery would have to have cables going thru to the motor hence it may put a load when charging from the fuse box?

who knows.....

Thats strange. I always jump from the fuse box and it turns over without effort.

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
