hey guys jsut bought a pod filter for my car was about to remove the stock box and put the pod in and then realised that there was a vacume hose or something conected to the box.. what do i do with this hose when i remove the box? is it needed? cheers

Don't meant to hijack this thread but I was just thinking about putting in a pod filter in the car too. Saw KnN ones at autobahn going for around $100. Is there 'kit' or adapter that I might need to install this? If so does it usually come with the Pod Filter? Or must I get it seperately? Running a R34GTT S1. And advice would be much appreciated!! :)

I have installed 2 pod filters in r34 skylines and in the past hav just normally unpluged the hose from the box and put some tape on the end. It appears to not hurt the car in any major way if anything it is just a un-necessary sensor. You should be fine.

Hay, the intake manifold has a 3" inlet so if you correctly remove the intake box and slide the pod filter onto the intake rubber pipe and use the supplied hose clamp. No other adapter kit is necessary if your running a k&n filter. But i must advise against it i use a k&n panel filter and that works just as well. But try not to put a pod filter in and let it suck hot air from the engine you may loose performance.

Dont tape the end shut! It needs to "breathe", that why its connected to the air filter box...

A) Leave the hose there hanging, cops wont like it but its up to you where to role it up and hide it

B) Follow where the hose goes and remove the hose complete.

Or depending on the size of the hose just get a small breather filter for it, like the one below.

bag the hose is tiny probably only a 5mm opening if that I will b making a heatsheild/ box for it so wen that is done I'll connect it into that for the time Being I'll just leave it hanging.. Cheers for the help

its way too small for one of those.

the na ones are different to turbo, the turbos dont have that lil hose thing.

if ur gonna run a pod filter, try to get a box around it (the just jap ones are cheap and look nice too) and get a cold air intake on it from the standard cooler piping hole (if u have an aftermarket cooler with a hole drilled) i dunno if n/a's have this hole though.

I'm gonna make a custom cai n box off the poddy but there is not hole from the standared air intake so will have to drill my own.. I'll get to it this w.e

i really dont advise drilling a big f**k off hole in ur engine bay buddy. but thats up to u

LOL at your comment, im my opinion its not worth putting a hole in your engine bay for a stupid pod that wont give your car any results on a dyno or on the street, i suggest he does what i did i took of my pod because its useless put my standard box back in went to the guys at Justjap and got a apexi panel filter, its easy, its effective and it keeps the cops off your back.

When i bought my r33 it had a pod on it and i replaced it with a k&n pod, and one of the just jap boxes, the car still ran sluggish from the pod even with cold air because its sucking more air then its ment to, and my fuel/air gauge was saying it was running lean aswell

ALSO i got defected with the just jap box on, they cops didnt give a F%$#

so i found a stock box with the standard cold air snorkle with a flat panel k&n filter and its been going like a dream, i highly advice against drilling holes in the body and pod filters :ermm:

If there is a vacume hose connected to the box, its gonna be there for a reason. If there is a lesson to be learnt (and I have) with high tech engines like the rb25 neo that the engineneers that made the engine are pretty good at their job. You could drill a tiny hole in the base of the pod and silastic in a small holow tube that the vacume line will fit. I done that. Or, if you want an awesome sound to come from the air intake, leave the panel filter in place and just remove the intake snorkel and about 3800-4500rpm the induction noise will be louder than your exhaust, I've done this and it is still like it today and completley legal and sheilded from engine bay heat. Try it and see how you go.

I'll aggree with that and the car will go so much better with the panel filter over the pod. And the hose that goes to the air box before the air flow meter is a air intake temp sensor (I think?).

    • Have a look at that (shitty) pic I posted. You can see AN -4 braided line coming to a -4 to 1/8 BSPT adapter, into a 1/8 BSPT T piece. The Haltech pressure sender is screwed into the long arm of the sender and factory sender (pre your pic) into the T side. You can also see the cable tie holding the whole contraption in place. Is it better than mounting the sender direct to your engine fitting......yes because it removes that vibration as the engine revs out 50 times every lap and that factory sender is pretty big. Is it necessary for you......well I've got no idea, I just don't like something important failing twice so over-engineer it to the moon!
    • Yup. You can get creative and make a sort of "bracket" with cable ties. Put 2 around the sender with a third passing underneath them strapped down against the sender. Then that third one is able to be passed through some hole at right angles to the orientation of the sender. Or some variation on the theme. Yes.... ummm, with caveats? I mean, the sender is BSP and you would likely have AN stuff on the hose, so yes, there would be the adapter you mention. But the block end will either be 1/8 NPT if that thread is still OK in there, or you can drill and tap it out to 1/4 BSP or NPT and use appropriate adapter there. As it stands, your mention of 1/8 BSPT male seems... wrong for the 1/8 NPT female it has to go into. The hose will be better, because even with the bush, the mass of the sender will be "hanging" off a hard threaded connection and will add some stress/strain to that. It might fail in the future. The hose eliminates almost all such risk - but adds in several more threaded connections to leak from! It really should be tapered, but it looks very long in that photo with no taper visible. If you have it in hand you should be able to see if it tapered or not. There technically is no possibility of a mechanical seal with a parallel male in a parallel female, so it is hard to believe that it is parallel male, but weirder things have happened. Maybe it's meant to seat on some surface when screwed in on the original installation? Anyway, at that thread size, parallel in parallel, with tape and goop, will seal just fine.

Is it really just a case of finding a couple of holes and ziptying it there so it never goes flying or starts dangling around, more or less? Then run a 1/8 BSP Female to [hose adapter of choice?/AN?] and then the opposing fitting at the bush-into-oil-block end? being the hose-into-realistically likely a 1/8 BSPT male) Is this going to provide any real benefit over using a stainless/steel 1/4 to 1/8 BSPT reducing bush? I am making the assumption the OEM sender is BSPT not BSPP/BSP
    • I fashioned a ramp out of a couple of pieces of 140x35 lumber, to get the bumper up slightly, and then one of these is what I use
    • I wouldn't worry about dissimilar metal corrosion, should you just buy/make a steel replacement. There will be thread tape and sealant compound between the metals. The few little spots where they touch each other will be deep inside the joint, unable to get wet. And the alloy block is much much larger than a small steel fitting, so there is plenty of "sacrificial" capacity there. Any bush you put in there will be dissimilar anyway. Either steel or brass. Maybe stainless. All of them are different to the other parts in the chain. But what I said above still applies.
