well atleast you agreed...what i say is usually questionable...but nice to know that what i think and what i direct others are in the right direction... ;)

Hey guys. I've never changed oil on a turbo or perfomance car ever.

Was wondering is it the same as any other normal car?

Would yo use an oil flush let it run then drain it all out? Or would that not be advisable? A bit worried as I'm running a ball bearing turbo? Would this pose any problems?

From memory:

Nissan recommend 7.5w-30 (in JAPAN) on new engines. Probably to help fuel consumption.

I'd go with 5w-40 (Shell Ultra or Fuchs or Motul if you can afford it)

NISMO recommend 10w-60 for track work.

The RB25DET is 12 years old, not rebuilt and ~150,000km old. The SR20DET is 13 years old, not rebuilt and ~90,000km old. Neither blow smoke. Both have excellent compression and make the power I'd be expecting from them.I just find the thinner oils break down far quicker and end up thin and watery by the next oil change. The slightly thicker oil gives me a quieter engine and I drain almost exactly what I put into them out at the next oil change. A good number of 10W40 oils contain a lot of friction modifiers to achieve the desired viscosity, they're not fantastic for the engine.

Yeah the oil seems thin when it comes out cause it is warm.

If it is much thinner then it is diluted with a LOT of fuel - doubtful.

I've tested viscosity of a few oils new and used from my car after 7500km and there is a bees dick in them. Used oils are slightly thinner - a few percent which was probably fuel.

FWIW viscosity at 99°C in Cst

crankcase oil SAE 20 >>>>> 5.7-9.6

crankcase oil SAE 30 >>>>> 9.6-12.9

crankcase oil SAE 40 >>>>> 12.9-16.8

crankcase oil SAE 50 >>>>> 16.8-22.7

Fill til it comes out the filler plug...that's what it's there for. For obvious reasons you won't be able to put any more in!!!

laugh it up when i worked at ford an apprentice did just this!

he filled it alright bout 25litres of oil i think in an xt falcon

what the.. my 34s rb25de only takes about 3.5L...

i use motul turbolight 10w40 btw

I'm surprised to hear so much variation here. My R33 GTR took 4 litres, mabe a bit over, but nowhere near 5L. Do they all have different sumps? Is there a benefit to overfilling it some?

I'm using Royal Purple 10W40

ive used 2 different oils now, motul 4100? turbolight 10 40 and before that used to use mobil 1 5-50

both only used 3.5L (not even close to 4)

does this include a filter change?? i always get just under 5 in and its on the full line of the dip stick. maybe 200ml left in the bottle. im slowly filling one bottle with all the left overs of other changes :nyaanyaa:

If you do oil filter change, drain the sump very well and pour 5L of new engine oil in. Make sure the engine is warm to allow gunk to all come out before draining.

was just fine, but i havent seen any difference since using turbolight .. and its much cheaper

by the book it's like 4.7l or something

just put 5 liters in, saves wasting it and isn't going to hurt your car at all. it will help stop oil starvation if you drive around the streets like a mad flamin mongrel

      Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.

      List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?

      @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand

      You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
