No modified car will be "issue-less", built yourself, by someone else - there are bound to be problems as the cars are 15yrs old or more now, and thats a fact of life.

Someone that’s spent time, money & plenty of love on a car will undoubtedly have a more reliably modded car than yours will be once you change parts.

I mean hell, a month ago I had a steel water line let go – basically motor out to fix. Stock or modded, it would have occurred.

That’s just part and parcel of owning old cars for a start :)

It'll take longer to find a good/well modded example IMO, however it'll be worth it in the long run 10 fold

I'll stop harping on now :(

They are nice reasons mate, i too had that view as well for quite a while, infact a large number of people probably did. Especially if you've been around 5+ years as those cars just didnt exist way back when.

Times have changed though & this time around I've purchased a very well modded car, circuit ready - for nowhere near what it would cost starting from scratch. I'll have it hopefully in the next week or so :D

There are plenty of brilliantly modified cars here in Vic, from reputable workshops and most of them are regular's @ trackdays etc.

I would strongly suggest you go along to such events, most people have a price they would sell their car for - GTR or GTS-t.

(FYI a 300rwkw GTR will be faster than a GTS-t hands down simply dude to grip)

If you go with the attitude of "someone elses problem" i think that's silly. You'll have just as many problems (if not more) in the process of modifying your own.

Buying someone else's reliably running car, means they've gone through that and sorted it out in due course ;)

What is your intended use for the car?

How old are you?

You also need to factor not only suspension, but brakes and tyres. I mean 18's & tyres alone will come in around 3k depending on what you decide :)

You'd mince probably 6-8k just in suspension/brakes/diff/clutch and that's without even anything relating to the engine bay which wouldn't see a cent out of 7-8k IMO.

Otherwise if you wanna pursue this plan - read Hamish's post above, he's listed the parts you'll need.

yeah true i gotta decide if i want it for show or go, its just that its not the biggest budget available but i don't want exactly 300kW more like 250- 280 anything more is a bonus.

The car is intended for my dad because he has been interested in the "import turbo scene" for a number of years since his' friend bought a twin turbo 300zx/Fairlady z a number of years ago. A few of my dad's friends have ditched the whole V8 muscle thing and got into japanese sports/performance cars and from curiosity my dad wanted to know why. This was when he drove a few of his friends imports and got a big surprise from the potential. After a bit of research it came to conclusion that the R33 would be a great car because my dad is a little fussy in choice(even though the R33 is his' 36th car he he's bought since he started driving at 17yo). It'll be used mainly as a weekender and maybe a track day every month or so just to compare times and have some fun.

The personal owner of this account I, Tim Jones is 15 years old (yeah have a laugh even I find it funny) but will be driving (not the R33 though) on L's by March-April 2011 BUT! The car isn't for me, its for my dad whose 47 years old next week and he's getting the R33 as a personal birthday present for he's been driving for 30 years. When I turn 21 my dad will pass the car onto me. I'm only writing and made an account here because my dad isn't the best with computers but all the ideas/decisions will be made by my dad for he is in charge and its his' car.

If there are any extra costs eg. suspension, brakes etc.: it will all be taken into consideration for this car will be nurtured and loved and will be very looked after (my dad gets a little cranky even if there are finger prints on the door handle) and we'll have this car for a long time.

BTW- We aren't in a rush or hurry, the car will be picked up by next week for it needs to have some minor things fixed and touched up, RWC, windows tinted and insurance. My dad just wanted to know where some places are that we can get the 33 some kick, the prices for the kick and what he could do to the car to gain that kick.

IMO - Get ya dad to come along and get into some various cars - best way to workout what to do.

Talk to the owners, see how they went about it and why.

Hamish's car in terms of R33 - would be one of the more interesting. It's a bit more power than you guys are chasing (given E85), but it's basically the example of how far you can go without going "too" far (if there ever is such a thing?)

lol, my car was a little more than the budget tho ;)

srsly though, come to a general meeting or even DECA if you are keen and you are welcome to come for a ride :D

given the situation, i would recommend getting a pfc or nistune ,second hand GCG highflow turbo, turbotech bleed valve, fmic and a single plate button clutch

from there you dad could tune for around 230rwkw

if he eventually wants more, the injectors, fuel pump and AFM can be swapped out for bigger items and net ~ 260rwkw

if you stop at 230rwkw you could then fit front and rear swaybars, coilovers and a 1.5 way diff into the budget.

230rwkw and a good suspension setup is more fun than 300rwkw and shitty stock suspension

Off topic, but when is deca on. I always say ill go and see what its all about but i always miss out. This time i wanna plan in advance so i can check it out.

Entries are up for DECA...its on the 20th of november.... check out the thread...

I went to take a closer look at the R33 today before it got sent of for body touch ups and repairs. I was quite suprised that instead of being an RB25DET, its just an RB25DE BUT!!!!! it had an aftermarket turbo installed and is therfore a DE"T" pretty sure the turbo is an apex'i AX53B70.. Its has had sway bars installed, a momo steering wheel and a better boost controller installed which we have no how idea to use which is why I'm asking:

-How Do I use a Blitz Dual SDC boost controller

and

-Is the turbo good/reliable

I asked the seller how many rwkw would it have and he said around 215rwkw.

-Think this answers legit/accurate?

Btw what would be the easiest and/or cheapest option to gain 60kW since my dad is considering brakes and suspension.

Me-"Aey dad, these guys are recommending work on suspension and brakes if we want to chase for 250-300rwkw mark" Dad-"Yeah true, if its gonna see the track; its pretty much required" My mate Moose(S2K)"Yeah these guys look like pros; check out that guys 33! *points to Kris' s foto* sus out dem plates" Dad-"What do they say?" Moose-"CR33M" Dad-"lol, whats it say under it?, can't read it; too small" Me-"CR33M in your pants" Moose-**falls of chair and rofls"

I need to think of a cool name 4 my plates within a 5 days, any ideas? just like it to have 1 or more of the following:

R33 in it or

sumfin 2 do wif da engine or

something that lightly teases rival cars (maybe R34s? eg; NEOH8R or I8UR◆34 [as in eat/ate] )

eg*

*Moose's S2K's plates are "SPUNIN"

*my skool friend's plates on his Supra is JZANML

*another of my mates has an XR6 and his plates are SS◆HNTR

I think you might get the idea tho

plates are a personal thing and theres really nothing anyone else can say or advise that will appeal to you the way your own imagination will. jump on www.vplates.com.au and throw some ideas at it, see whats available. cuz most of the time if its witty, somebody else already has it.

Your car being an upgraded NA (GTS+t) is going to make things a little different than what Kris and Hamish have done to their cars as theirs were always turbo engines...an NA has a higher compression rate to maximise the power and response that that engine can provide without a turbo - otherwise people wouldnt buy them :) no point owning a skyline that drives like a camry lol. this is afaik anyway.

no idea re the Apexi turbo, but a dual SBC is fitted and tuned by a mechanic/engineer/specialist tuning shop to different power levels, ie setting one being 10, 2 14, 3 16, etc...whatever the engine and turbo are capable of without risking too much. really all you have to do as the driver is alternate between settings via the buttons on the control unit. but hide that shit cuz cops love them....

As far as power output goes youd have to dyno it to get a better idea.

    • Im not entirely sure exactly what or where its leaking from, he started to pull the boots to swap to my new tie rods + ends and it just vomited fluid, so he closed em up up, swapped the rod ends to the old rods and let me know so I can figure a solution out, im guessing its all origional as as I passed 103k miles earlier this year im sure its just in need of a full overhual/rebuild anyways.    If i could just yank it off and be good it wouldn't be an issue to ship it out and wait for the turnaround but the guy I work with doesnt really have space to keep my car for a week or two at a time, would rather drop it off and have a replacement ready to drop in
    • What do you mean by "seals"? Internal hydraulic seals (ie, is it leaking PS fluid?) or the rack boots that close the rack onto the tie-rods? Because the former is a rebuild, and the latter is trivial that you or any nearby mechanic could do. Dunno about the cowl. Just buy what you think is required and get anything else you find/break afterwards. Wing? Dunno. Don't like R33s enough to pay attention to them. Mirror glass is just glass (on the surface that you want to polish). Go for it.
    • Hello! Long time lurker, been using the forums to address concerns and questions from afar for a while but I've struggled to find some answers so I guess its about time I made an account and formally asked some more knowledgeable people, since finding local skyline owners is hard (and shops that are knowledgeable or trustworthy to work on 'rare' cars are non existent out where im at, as skylines are quite uncommon to find in the wild around here). So the main 3 questions I have, 1: Steering rack has blown seals, well.. they kind of hold but they are not sealed properly anymore and as my R33 is my DD, i cant exactly rip the rack out and send it off or attempt to fix myself. As most refurb ones are around $1,100 or more shipped, and I have other things I need to work on around the car, I was seeking clarification on whether an S15 rack will more or less bolt right in, and whether a common mechanic could do any other required work to get it to fit. I ask, as I've found a supplier than can sell a manufactured as oem one for around 400, if not I'll likely order a used one from Jacks JDM, and take a risk on the seals there. The second question i have is that im replacing the front wiper cowl and have planned to buy 4 new clips and a new center clip but wasnt sure if there were any other clips that would also need to get replaced while I was at it. Given im sure any that are there now will simply break when I remove the old cowl... Last thing would be a fairly straight forward question, i think. If I manage (strong if, finding one has proven to be a pain) to find a R33 GTR spoiler/wing will it require much modification to bolt to a S2 R33 GTST? I've read the bolt patterns dont match but otherwise would bolt in, only options I have found with much luck is China stuff on ebay and carbonetics, which has a nice $650 shipping fee... so if anyone has any pointers where a US chap could locate one that would be great Random side question as well, the mirrors as I understand are mirror glass, and as im planning to polish my windows from water spots and surface scratches, i was hopeful cerium oxide would be fine for them too, as my research points to, but clarification is always nice. Any pointers would be appreciated, and while I have scoured the internet for answers if I missed a prior post somewhere that may answer these directly please point me towards it, as i must have simply missed it. I have seen a post here or there that has mentioned it, but I usually get 50-50 answers, or half answers... I dont have a lot of fab experience or mechanic experience, outside of hydraulic and pneumatic stuff I did in the military and with how hard it is to source stuff in the US, id rather not wing it and hemmoraghe money lol. Thanks guys! Sorry for the monumental first post haha
    • Yep, there's a very minor drift left that happens a few seconds after letting go of the steering wheel, but not enough to bother me. Enjoying the car still!
