Sadly, yes.

If you have standard turbo in it, it is a damn good idea to upgrade the turbos while you're at it...

Welcome to GTR ownership.

It's all labour mate, remove all induction piping, remove front turbo and manifold, then rear turbo and manifold. Oil lines, water lines, etc. Even then some studs might break, it may cost more.

If seeking more power down the track perhaps think about upgrading the R32 dumps? Replace the gaskets between the manifold and turbo, and turbo + dumps? Cheap stuff to do while you have all the gear taken out mate.

yes it is running stock turbos still so this makes more decsions ;)

what am i looking at for a set of replacement turbos and would it

need a tune/other things costing lots of monies?

i dont want to replace this gasket then have a turbo blow

Only $800?

Thats reasonably cheap, its an absolute cnt of a job ;)

Replacements would be $1200ea (Garrett -9s), then R33 dumps - $150 or so.

Id certainly look to changing turbos mate, added cost, but by god you dont want one letting go :)

Grab a pair of HKS GT-SS that R31Nismoid is selling (maybe PM him but I remembered him mentioning).

And Power FC while you're at it.

What other mods do you already have?

Well, in this case, grab a pair of Garrett 2860 -9s and buy my HKS adjustable actuators then.

This @18 psi + front pipe, decat (or hi flow cat if you're a girl) + cat back zorst + power fc = 300kw.

The car is stock with only coil overs and strut braces.

I'm not looking for any power increase, I like the car as is, just want reliability.

The mechanic that has the car now is doing a price on some reco'd steel turbos.

Are reco'd turbos a bad idea? I have looked at HKS ones but they look pricey.

Reco'd http://cgi.ebay.com.au/R33-GTR-Turbos-N1-S...b0#ht_858wt_783

HKS GT-SS 2860-7 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-GTR-R32-R33-...ed#ht_616wt_783

Thanks for the help

yeh that's pretty cheap price.

my rear turbo exhaust to dump gasket went and both turbos and manifolds had to come out.. its a c*nt of a job, i replaced most of the other gaskets and washers that side of the motor and parts alone came to 400-500bux, thats including inconnel studs and nuts.

if u know how to turn a screwdriver just do it yourself.

ill do it for $400 + beer haha

but yeh its a big job, i can do it in around 4 hrs now turbos on and off, but i have done it that many times i have lost count, if you do it yourself expect to be there the whole day and night but all fun :)

just get some steel wheel turbos in there you can get them for around the $1000 mark, all new gaskets so another $60 and a pair of ss dump $300 and ur all good to go.

    • I've got a 2011 J50 that I imported six years ago. The unmodified factory AV system date and time has always been correct ( Japanese timezone of course ) up until last month. About two weeks ago, at engine start, the system wished me a happy new year ( in Japanese of course ). I can't think of anything that would make the system think that the date had changed, unless the GPS component has failed/reset somehow ? I checked the GPS reception in the system settings, and it can still see the satellites. Has any other J50 owner had this happen ?  It's no biggie, just annoying that it tells me the wrong date anytime I start the engine. 😅
    • Love following your adventures on IG, hopefully if you're still around in Japan when we visit again wouldn't mind going for a few beers with you (that's if you're keen on hearing how I hate Nissans).
    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
