Just need to know what the phyiscal/visual difference's are between the gt2860 -5, -7, -9, -10 etc.....

Some of you missed the etc lol

obviously on the GTR specific 5,7,9,10s they look identical yet gt2860 can mean other turbos too, IE gt2860rs which is completely different to look at.

Just make sure you buy the right one to suit your application, we are only assuming you want this for a GTR as you have not stated in your OP.

Thanks,

the part number is on the ID tag that it riveted to the CHRA.

Also if you measure the compressor inducer that will tell you what model you have; With the exception of -9 and -5 which have the same inducer but different exducers.

-7: 44.5mm

-9: 47.2mm (59.4mm Exducer)

-5: 47.2mm (60.0mm Exducer)

-10: 51.2mm

Actually you need to check the compressor housing size and A/R ratio . I think the GTR style GT2860R turbos can have either a T3 or T04B sized compressor housing depending on which compressor wheel it has .

I'm not 100% sure without looking but I think the ones that are 0.60 A/R are T04B sized internally where the 0.4x A/R ones are T3 sized internally .

If you could get the comp housings off the diameter of its backing plate at the diffuser section (the step outwards from the comp wheels exducer tips) would give it away .

Also I seem to remember OE GTR turbos having a turbine housing A/R size smaller than some of the RB26 style GT2860R turbos , I think OE and some of the more responsive 2860R's had 0.48 A/R T housings and the higher performance ones 0.64 A/R T housings .

Most would know that GTR turbos use a more compact turbine housing outline that single turbo versions and the comp covers have the two bolt in and out flanges plus the two eyes at the bottom to mount the fluid junction gadgets .

Cheers A .

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
