I have embarked on an engine rebuild on my R33GTST S2.

Completed so far is the machining of the block to accept a new R33GTR Crank and RB26 Ross Forged 1mm oversize Pistons 8.5 Comp Ratio, Spool Rods and ACL Race Series Bearings, Cometic HGasket, Nissan Genuine Gasket Kit, N1 Oil Pump, Crank Collar, Gates Belts. I have chosen to only have the head decked and refreshed not going full house as its a street car daily driver and I'm not made of money LOL.

Debating as to where to go from here.

ECU is going to be an Adaptronic and unsure as to whether I put it back in with the stock turbo and tune with new injectors and fuel pump and enjoy because its cost me enough so far and I want to enjoy my car for a bit before I start hating it for making me poor.

Or would this be shit as the bigger displacement would make it a dog.

Yeah I was thinking about a new turbo its just the cost

Rebuild cost so far:

RB26 Crank $1450

Pistons Rods Bearings HGasket $2250

Machining Block $1750 (Including ARP Head and Main Studs)

Still to Pay for the:

Builders Labour : $60 an hour cash in hand

Head recondition around $1000

Injectors $1000

Adaptronic with loom plugin $1300

Fuel Pump $500

Split Fires $600

If I go bigger turbo $1000+

:-)

I know it deserves it really but just want my car to drive whilst I save a bit more.

I'd been waiting ages for a crank that was "being shipped" which was $900. So I just bought a brand new one expressed shipped in 3 days from Sydney to Hobart. Did pay a bit more but I had waited 6 weeks and then some for the other

that turbo looks awesome

Ok have bought a turbo hahaha I bit the bullet so to speak.

Its of a mates Stagea should be good it made 270kw @ the wheels, he has decided after 3000km to go spastic with a high mount so is glad to sell it on.

I'll get the specs later and pass them on!

Its a custom half half thing hence the reason I cant remember the specs I think its an AVO front and rear housing from something else. It was part of a pair that they ordered and worked really well. Just sms'd for the specs will post shortly

He is getting something thru Matt Rogers I think

Do you have a good tuner who likes Adaptronic? If so OK if not for a little extra you could get a Vipec or Link.

Yeah I have spoken to my tuner and he is confident with them. My mate is running it in his R31 RB30 With T67 and has recommended it. I havent bought it yet but the price is right = Cheap lol

I have read a few threads about the Vipec and link ecus but I just feel more comfortable with the adaptronic because of my friends recommendations and consulting with my tuner.

Thanks mate :(

We believe it to be a GT30R Front with a gt28r core and avo turboworld custom rear housing. All Custom made so pretty cool

Honestly - probably not that cool

Sounds like nothing more than your typical butchered turbo :(

Overpriced rubbish that doesn't perform as well as the comparative equivalent...

the challenge there is the increase in capacity and change of ratio, and still keeping a small rear housing

it may end up giving you a nice nose dive affect on the power band

so youll spend all this $$ and time getting a nice 3 litre with good compression ratio and a tiny rear

you wouldnt want anything less than a GT30 sized rear on it at a guess

even the 28R rear he has gone for might be too small

its a 25 with 26 guts paul not a 30

Pity, while you were waiting i was waiting for an r33 crank from Tasmania.

    • Yes I can see how that would put you off HFM, especially with the price of good quality brake fluid. From what I understand it as you say the BM50 is the standard BMC for a R32 GTR, I must admit I would like to go far a Genuine Nissan BM57, but lack of cash prevents that at present. With the price being so close between the genuine BM50 and BM57 a BM57 New it seems a better choice as you gain that 1/16 bore size with the BM57, I would be interested in how much difference you feel with the BM57 fitted. I am going to take SteveL's advice in the short term and see how much actually comes out of that proportioning valve vent and save up for the Genuine Nissan part. Thanks for clarifying the HFM failure
    • Thanks mate. I just got the post inspection 1/2 done from state roads when the starter motor packed up, either that or the car alarm system is having trouble.  OEM part number 23300-AA112.
    • Hi, I though I was coming to an end in finding a replacement starter motor for a rb25de neo. I came across a starter motor from Taarks and a message below stating: Direct fit. 11 Tooth count. All below part numbers have been superseded to 11 teeth. Can some body shed some light on going from 8 teeth to 11 teeth apart from 36-month / 25,000 km warranty for passenger vehicles to 12 Month Warranty. Compatible with the following Nissan part numbers: 23300-20P00 23300-20P01 23300-20P05 23300-20P10 23300-20P11 23300-AA111 23300-AA112 23300-AA300 23300-08U10 23300-08U11 23300-08U15
    • Low battery? Maybe check capacity? I know first-hand, on BMWs if your battery drops below 80% capacity, it starts causing strange issues.
    • 8.5 +37 = should fit rear, but I think it'll hit on front. What you want is low 30s/high 20's front, mid 30's rear. That 17" screenshot you posted looks good, I'd run it on my R32 (but that's long dead now). For tyre sizes, my rule of thumb is: 8': 235, 9": 255. But that's just my opinion. Nismo sizes: 18x8.5+35/18x9.5+38 is a good starting point.
