Ticket :(

Hey all,

Today I received a parking ticket but this is the story -

I parked in a 2hr zone from 10am to 2:30pm (yes I know wayy over the time limit), and at roughly 2:35 I remembered I was in a 2hr zone so I rushed to move my car.. luckily i did not have a ticket at that time.

I moved out of the parking lot, and into a side street, which was another 2hr zone, and went back to work for roughly 30 mins. When I'd finished work 30 mins later, I arrived at the car to find a ticket on my windshield, but I was only in that car parking space for 30 mins.. I suspect the white chalk hadn't of rubbed off or something...

Is it worth fighting this ticket? I know I was in the wrong during the 1st car parking lot but the ticket is issued at 2:45, and says the offence is in the Street parking not the car park...

Any thoughts would be great!

If it was the same parking zone you can still get booked. I think the numbers are on the signs maybe.

Their technology is getting too good these days they can keep track of your number plate.

I think i'ts too late now, if you caught the inspector at the time you could of explained the chalk to him and hope he'll help you out which I doubt he would coz ticket inspectors are gay.

So even though I moved out of the carpark, across the road, and into a street parking space, they can still ping me?

If you have time on your hands, you've got a fair chance of winning in court (if you were within the time limit on that 2nd parking spot) - especially if you have witnesses who can say that you went out to move your car. I'm not sure if Statutory Declarations by witnesses will be enough though. They might have to appear too. And that'll leave your workplace empty handed.

I've had 2x parking tickets rescinded before. I was angry on principle.

I work for The City of Dandy and the same thing happened to me.

I was at a meeting at the Springvale office where I think my tire would have been marked. Then had to go to the Dandy office to drop off some paperwork. I parked in the two hour staff parking, ran in for no more than 10 min, and when I got back I had a ticket.

I fought it because I had my work roster that showed I only had 45 min between the meeting and my next client to go to the Dandy office.

I'd try and fight it if I was you. Say your tire was marked while you were parked somewhere else running an errand for work. When you got back you only had a short time before knock off so you parked in the side stree and not the work car park. Might work.

i agree...fight for it....just write a letter to the council and explain the situation and say you shouldn be paying the fine...done mention about being over the time in the 1st spot...

i go to uni and i have to deal with it everyday when i am there...big car park and when they chalk you, it takes 500m of driving to take it off...i was speaking to the ticket inspecter there and asked him about moving the car 3 spots down...they go thats illegal as they want you to leave the car park properly and come back in...(that will give enough time for the chalk to leave the tyre)

since you did that, leaving the car park and then parking on the street, you did the right thing...but unfortunately the chalk didnt come off and it was placed the side up where they mark it....so do fight for it....you shoudl get away with it...you didnt do anything wrong... and therfore dont have to pay for it...

Good, in that case, don't forget the Stat Dec/s. It/they substantiate your argument.

The sooner it's done, the better though.

i've been fighting one with stonnington where i was parked behind my work in a spot that has no signs telling you it is illegal.

there used to be a sign there but it has been removed. it still shows in their system as a no parking zone,

they say they have sent officers down to have a look and that there is a sign there, however there is STILL NO SIGN.

they simply just lie to you. i have now used up all my chances of contesting and have to take the matter to court. i even supplied them with photo's and they dont care

I have challenged such a fine and won (before going to court).

The Road Rules Act stated that if the sign is 2P (for example) you cannot stay parked continuously for more than 2 hours in that parking area. I successfully argued that since I had moved my car, then my car was not parked continously for more than 2 hours (a moving car is not a parked car). They dropped the fine.

Might as well write a letter.. just make sure it sounds pro You technically left and came back to the area, if you explain that they might be able to waive it. You shouldn't have been ticketed.

Hey all,

So I wrote a letter into the council, and luckily they've let me off.

I was just polite, and explained the situation with the theory that the chalk hadn't been rubbed off.
