Hi guys and gals,

need some help with my line :) Lately, when I've been driving, I get a sharp squeeling sound when I brake. I would need to brake it hard, for the squeeling sound to stop. Anybody know whats wrong, and how it can be fixed? Maybe, use some grease or something? :Paranoid:

Thanks, any feedbacks would be sweet! :P

You may find that your pads have not worn evenly (or you may have sanded them back) and when you apply light pressure the full face of the pad isn't touching the rotor so it squeels (this is what I was told by a reputable brake mechanic in sydney). I get a similar noise on very few occassions, if I softly press the pedal I get a gentle squeeze but if I stand on it then it brakes like it should and without squeel.

You may also want to take ur wheel off and make sure the little shims are in place.

on a similar note......sorry for the hijack....my mates 96 rex makes a loud clunk noise from the front passengers side when breakin all the time. this was after he had them changed and machined. i think they left something out when putting it back together. any suggestions on this??

Knowing absolutely nothing at all about cars, could it be his castor rod bushes that have worn out?

My mechanic replaced mine because they were wearing out and asked me if i had noticed a thunk noise when stopping.

If it makes that clunk noise after you have just finished turning a series of corners it could be worn/wearing wheel bearings causing the caliper/rotor to move and then when you apply brake pressure it has to push everything back into place.

Where can you get some wheel bearings for a R33?

I get some small clunking when I'm turning and braking at slow speeds, I was thinking it was my caster bushes, it clunks abit when you are going straight and over a few bumps as well.

My brakes don't squeal when I'm going forward but they squeal like a b!tch when I'm going backwards.

yeah he did mention that when he turned left the car feels strange like theres some reisitance. ill pass the info on. cheers guys.

RB74's are bendix ultimates rite?? mine dont squeel at all under normal breakin, only under really light breakin and of course reverse...hehe

RB74's are NOT Bendix and they are NOT DBA pads they are www.racebrakes.com.au pads. Bendix pads are designed for the daily driven Falcadores where as the RB74's are designed for the performance/track cars.

I put on a new set of Ultimates on mine a few weeks ago, and followed the 'bedding instructions' as per this site somewhere. I also have new wheel bearings.

They squeel under light braking, my old pads never squeeled.

The only difference I noticed between the new and old pads was that the ultimates only had metallic 'wings' on 2 of the 4 pads at the bottom, anyone know what these 'wings' are?

My stock pads & ultimates looked both the same. 2 of the 4 pads only had metal wings. As do the Maxi-stops I am currently running.

Did you remember to remove the shims from the origional pads & put them on the new?

Its easy to miss especially when the old pads are covered in lots of pad dust.

My ultimates never squeeked. The new el' cheapo Maxi-Stops ($26 an axle) don't feel anywhere near as nice, produce 1/8th the dust & squeel slightly after being pushed hard.

My pads didn't squeal until I had rear camber adjusters put in and the mechanic got the grease on the rear right brake disc. The front right brake now squeals. I think it got overheated having to cope with more braking as a result, probably just need right front machined again.

When I very very lightly touch the brakes the squeal is intermittent as the wheel turns it is only in one spot. Uneven disc? Perhaps carbonite build up? Can you see carbonite build up?

Would it be advisable to try putting some grease into the shims first or go straight for disc machining?

Would the grease on rear right disc wear off or will I need to use some brake cleaner or something to make sure it doesn't come back?

RB74's are very abrasive. 5 times as much I am told to Galver 1105's which stop real well, much better than ultimates.

Utimates are very very dirty and sqeal like a freight train, went deaf for a day due to the noise after 5 hours of driving, and to keep your wheels clean with Ultimates requires washing every day instead of once a week.

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
